Now this might be a game changer. I've been waiting for a sale on the 2700X , but to save $65 (compared to $319), I'm thinking that with decent water cooling (I have a Corsair Hydro H115i already on order) that the base 2700 will OC to near X levels. Enough anyway to be worth the price savings - to buy better/faster memory at least.

Lots of 2700X benchmarks out in the wild, but almost none for the plain 2700 (apparently early review copies were only sent for the X models). First glance at YouTube didn't show any 2700 OC results either, but I need to check that again.

I'd also need at least a mid-range X470 board for OC, but I'm preferring either the Tachi or Strix boards anyway, so no change there with my planned 2700/X build(s).

Anyway, so what results have folks had OC'ing the plain 2700?

4.1 looks to be average doable, 4.25 if you get a good one.

So yeah at $65 difference worth doing if you're already buying that aio.

A 2700 even at 4ghz paired with 3200 ram is going to perform generally better than a 2700x at 4.2 with 2400/2666 ram.

The question is do you actually need 8c/16t??

If not the 2600x is a better buy.
