Question Ryzen 2700x vs i7 8700 for gaming

Hi. Iam not sure whether to upgrade to 2700x or 8700 non K since they both are the same price in my area. I only Game on my pc . No video editing . No streaming. I play on 1080P 60Hz what do you guys recommend and why?

For 1080P 60Hz, you cannot go wrong with both the options.

For 1080p 144Hz and higher, games tend to favor Intel.

Games on higher resolutions greater than 1080p, perform very similar irrespective of the CPU.

I'd personally suggest you to wait until 7th of July, where you can get 3700X for similar price which is far better than the options mentioned above.

I have a Ryzen 2700X with an RTX 2070, 60 hz monitor, 16GB 3200 RAM and very happy with its performance at both 1080p and 4K.

Your 3200 RAM makes a difference especially at 1080p as these Ryzens really utilise the extra speed providing you have a decent mobo and not a budget one where the CPU matters more at 1080p gaming.

I can't compare it to its Intel rival but the Ryzen's extra cores are utilised well in Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V as examples.
It also gives it better future proofing having 8 cores.
