I have been using the 2700x for a while now and it's a good chip in my opinion. I just switched from using Precision Boos Overdrive to man OCing and im running stable 4.2 on all cores at about 70c after an hour of AC: Odyssey. I am also running 2 GTX 1070ti's at 2k on very high in the game. I think it's a great chip for the price.

If you're getting a Ryzen CPU only for gaming, i strongly recommend you to just get a Ryzen R5 2600.. With that you will save few hundred dollars.

R7 2700X is an overclockers & productivity CPU. It's designed for heavy CPU workload scenarios.

The difference between standard R7 2700 & 2700X is that the 2700X will clock higher & potentially running at more stable operation under extreme clock speed situations..

I love my 2700x I'm running a nearly 800.00 custom Koolance Liquid cooling system, however you only need a basic one. 70c is rather hot even with a stock setup if you're using the stock fan. I however recommend waiting until Zen2 comes out if you're going to get a Ryzen system. I've had mine since Oct. 2018, First one had a very small problem the memory controller was bad, I've had this one since the replacement and it's been running flawlessly.
