I was looking to make a pc build around 500$~ I took the idea from https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/cJWG3C/entry-level-amd-gaming-build, but I already had some parts which include (SSD, HDD, 8GB Ram 2666, and a ryzen 3 1200) I was wondering if it would be best to upgrade to a ryzen 5 2600, or if I should look to swap something else out. For graphics, I am able to get a GTX 1070 for 215$ so that to take that into account I would have somewhere around the 300$~ budget left for a case, PSU, mobo. Also forgot to mention, but the pc would be used for light gaming nothing heavy, (Overwatch, League of legends, Destiny 2), video streaming, and basic web browsing.

Solution

The Ryzen 3 1200 will handle the things you need just fine, however:

1: Make sure the 8gb of memory is NOT 1 stick. Get a dual channel pair (2 sticks, 4gb each). Otherwise you'll end up with a bottlenecked system with only 1 stick

2: The Ryzen 3 1200 is a 4 core / 4 thread CPU, I would look for at least a Ryzen 1400 if you can. It's also a 4 core CPU but has SMT (similar to Intel's hyperthreading). It would give you a 4 core / 8 threaded setup.

Should i go for 16GB of ram or 8 should suffice for those needs?

16 gb is definitely the "sweet" spot but 8gb will suffice for the things you're looking to do with it. You can always add more RAM later on down the road if you need to.
