I just want to know gaming wise only. I’ll overclock the r3 if anything. But my fx was struggling with the new anthem game that was the point where I wanted to upgrade it was time anyways. I also have a bottleneck since I have a 390x but it’s so severe it’s not even funny. The r3 has minor bottlenecking. But I would keep this r3 for a year or 2 while saving up for a r5 2600x or r7 2700x don’t tell me anything else than the r3 please because this is the quickest cheapest conversion and I can get it done by next week. Thanks !

If you can afford the 1600 now, it makes more sense than the stopgap R3.
While it's 1st Gen, it's still very respectable & only gives up a little bit of clock speed vs the 2600.

Not too sure how good a deal is at $140 though? A new 1600 is $155 +Tax.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor ($155.01 @ OutletPC)
Total: $155.01
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

But you could play that game forever, the 2600 is *only* $165+Tax, but then a 1700 is *only* $170+Tax

For strictly gaming yes, the Ryzen3 chips will outperform an FX8350.

However, two points.
1. Consider an R3 1200 opposed to a 2200G. Not only are you paying for an iGP you won't use, you're also limiting yourself regarding PCIe lanes for future expansion.
2. While the upgrade is likely warranted anyway, I would not base any upgrade around the current state of the Anthem title. It's pre-release, and pretty buggy - not a true reflection of what you should see post-release & optimization.

Very true it’s the same price for me though I’d rather get the 2200g. And it’s really bottlenecking my gpu hard man on gpu check it’s 50% performance loss vs 15% with the r3 I already ordered a b450 asrock board and will be getting my 8gb Ram tomorrow !

Any reason you'd rather get the 2200G? Just out of curiosity? Even at the same price, the PCIe lane tradeoff is a bit disappointing.

While the 2200G is clocked higher (3.7GHz boost) vs the 1200 (3.4GHz boost), if you're overclocking, they should level out anyway.

As for GPU check etc, don't put too much weight behind them - it's too simplistic to say X% "bottlenecking". Specific games, in-game settings, resolution etc all play a factor.

The FX8350 is dated architecture, and I'm sure does hold back a 390X in some instances, but that website would imply you could double your GPU performance across the board.... Which just isn't going to happen.

I’m already getting a ryzen 3 series which isn’t really overly superior i would like to get the fastest one plus they are the same price. What do you mean by pcie trade off? I’ll always stick to one gpu. And it’s known that it’ll bottleneck bad I want to at least lessen it up and be on a current gen with future upgrades. As for the bottlenecking I got my info from gpu check on high settings it could be crap just educate me.

To defend the r3 my fx has two broken pins which shut down 2 memory controllers so I sold my other 8gb of ram and now I’m running single channel 1000mhz, I feel as if the performance got worse with benchmarks as proof due to the pins even tho they are memory pins my motherboard is a atx with no case and I have a matx case waiting for me right here and again a current gen cpu. I’ve seen a lot of ryzen 5 1400 and 1600 recommendations also

I guess it won't matter if your intent is to upgrade to a 2600 or something soon enough.

The 2200G only affords x8 PCIe lanes for your GPU - which, for modern GPUs today (beyond like TitanRTX anyway) is still sufficient.
Never know what the future may hold though.

As for the "bottlenecking" aspect, take a look:
https://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/3002-amd-r3-1200-review-line-between-fine-and-exciting/page-4

When paired with a GTX1080, the 1200 (at stock) was anywhere from neck & neck, to ~10% faster.
Obviously, you're comparing a slightly faster R3 against a slightly weaker FX chip, so the gap would open a little....
But you're also not looking to pair it with a 1080, you're looking to pair it with a 390X.

The R3 is a solid option, absolutely - I'm merely pointing out that those bottleneck sites are junk, and are never going to net you the gains they would suggest via an upgrade.

If you could find a used R5 1600, or even new if the price was right, I'd suggest going that route & skipping an R3 altogether.
The 1400/1500X are ok, but struggle to find a place in the Ryzen product stack ... You really should look at either a strict quad core = R3, or 6c/12t = R5.

Okay because either way r3 or r5 depends on how much money I have bc I have a lot of bills and animals to feed but saving up 300$ for the r7 2700x or the r5 2600 for 180$ won’t be hard for me

I literally just ordered the r5 1600 for 137$ Do a couple dollars off and still brand new. I want to order everything as fast as possible so I wouldn’t have been able to get the 155$ retail But my motherboard is a asrock b450m hdv they are compatible right ? I’m looking on the website and I do indeed see ryzen 5 1600 but the model number is different. Does that matter ?

I’ve been looking for hours on the website last night because I found a few good deals on ddr4 but found different model numbers on the website comparability list

Remember, customer reviews are typically from people who just expect things to 'work'.
People complaining it won't do over 3266MHz etc, when no, there's no guarantee.

In some instances, you might end up with 2400MHz, max without manually tuning timings &/or a slight voltage bump - but for <$90, you're not going to have a chance of 3000MHz on Ryzen. With some tuning, that kit should do 2933MHz
