Im planning on building a pc a month later with an rtx 3060 or rx 6600 xt (depends on which is in stock and cheaper). Im confused between the ryzen 3 3300x and the i5 10400f, as I noticed that the the difference in fps in gaming is vey minimal. Both the CPUs are at the same price in my country, but the AM4 motherboards are way cheaper than the LGA 1200 motherboards (the price of a b450 is the same as a h410 in my country). Normally, I would have been sold after seeing ryzen 3's specs and performance, but it's core count worries. I plan on using this PC for the next 4-5 years, and im not sure about its future proofing. Which one would be a better option for me, keeping the future in mind?

Hmm thats what i initially thought too. But i want at least a b460 for it, which is out of my budget. The b460 costs exactly 100 dollars in my country, whereas a b450 costs 75 dollars. Would a h410 be good enough for the i5 and an rtx 3060? if it does, than i'll go with it

For i5 -
CPU- i5 10400F (180$)
Motherboard - MSI H410 PRO VH (70$) or Asrock B460 M (110$)
RAM- 8GB 2666Mhz (32$, will upgrade to 16gb a few months later)
GPU- RTX 3060/RX 6600 XT (Price TBD)
SSD- Crucial 500GB Sata 3 SSD (52$)
Cabinet- Montech X1 (50$)
PSU- Gigabyte p650b (50$)
Monitor- 1080p 144 hz (200$)

For R3 3300x-
CPU- Ryzen 3 3300x (180$)
Motherboard -MSI B450 PRO VH (73$)
RAM- 8GB 3200Mhz (38$)
GPU- RTX 3060/RX 6600 XT (Price TBD)
SSD- Crucial 500GB Sata 3 SSD (52$)
Cabinet- Montech X1 (50$)
PSU- Gigabyte p650b (50$)
Monitor- 1080p 144 hz (200$)

There maybe a few price differences during the purchase of the PC, and if we take the GPU's price to be at msrp, my total pc budget will be 950$.

I would spend slightly more, 15$ more and get a much better board, the B550 M Pro4 is much better, newer, better tech and features.. even better if one day you want to upgrade your setup to a better CPU in the future.

@mdd1963 , i also gave some thought and wondered if the i3 10100f would be good enough.. dont get me wrong, id take 6 cores over 4 cores any day. but im not exactly a hard core gamer, just someone who keeps gaming as a hobby. that'll become hard to keep up with soon, because i'll be entering college. i also read that the single core performance of i3 10100f is slightly better than than i5 10400f. so what would you suggest?
