Hello hope you are having a great day,So my friend has an i7 3770 and he wants to upgrade.Amd is the best choice right now but he wants a cpu that lives long like the i7 did his budget is 250$ we found ryzen 2700x for 220$ and ryzen 3600 for 170$. All he does is gaming( hardcore gaming he wants 144 fps + he already has a rtx 2060 super) but will 6 cores be enough for the next 5 years ?

The 3600 is the far better deal if a gamer....; it is faster in gaming always

$150 for mainboard AND RAM? there might be pushing it...

One wants at least 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) kit of at least 3200 MHz RAM...and a quality B450. Do NOT get an A320 board..

I sold my 2700x to replace with a 3600 at near-cost, it's a bit more capable in the single thread/gaming department, although you lose a bit in the multithread department.

For gaming there's a perceptible difference.

As for 5 years, that might be a crystal ball or stretch. If you roll B550 or similar he could drop in a Ryzen 4k series down the line, but your initial costs would be a bit higher. Worst case on B450 if they don't have a BIOS release for Ryzen 4k would be a 3900XT or similar as a drop in replacement once they are less expensive.
