which cpu is better for gaming as i have a i7 4790k and a gtx 1060 6gb dual fan and i want to upgrade to a better cpu then upgrade my gpu to a 3070 or a cheaper rtx 20 series version also what boards are good because ive seen some bundles on ebay with a 3600x with a b450 motherboard

Solution
right there is almost no difference between the 2 in performance. but the 3600x is a 95w part vs 65w for the 3600. so the better cooler for the 3600x is needed. but i recommend a new cooler for either cooler as they have a sort of whine to them that gets annoying REALLY fast.

i made it 2 weeks with my 3700x before changing the cooler. it kept temps fine, but i could not get over the noise.

for an extra $10 i'd go for the 3600x. but for $20 i'd stick with the 3600.

yeah right now i have a AIO cooler corsair one

Like others have mentioned, the 3600x has a better stock cooler. This alone makes it worthwhile, plus there is a small actual CPU improvement. If you are planning on adding your own cooler, then the price of the 3600x over a 3600 might not be worthwhile. If you are using the stock cooler I would recommend always getting the 3600x instead of the 3600.

B450-F
I have a 3600X and ran a wraith prism on it till it near drove me insane, dont get me wrong, it looks amazing and did keep the cpu cool enough but swapping it out for an after market cooler was a life saver, the noise was just crazy.
what motherboard you ran it with
you think a b450 is decent?

i use a GB b450 aorus pro and it's more than ample. you don't need a massive over-engineered mbo for those chips. they won't use more than 100w so don't need massive amount of vrm's and such.

b450 is plenty good enough but i'd not go lower though. b550 or x570 if you wish to add pcie 4 ssd's which are not really worth it right now as they are barely faster than pcie 3.0 models still.
