I am thinking of switching to a Ryzen 3600 build, since used market on it is cheaper than an intel 6c/12t equivalent, I currently have an i5-8600 rig since 2017, but i dont have extra cash for a new 2x8 3200mhz, i got a gtx 1070 to pair with it. Would i get significant reduction in performance on gaming and normal usage with a 2666 ram kit? I can go with a new i3-12100f if its better (i5 is a bit out of my budget).

well i personally dont really care on ram speed unless you are a gamer that want to squeeze as much gaming power. Due to Zen 2 Architechture, ram speed does actually matter to reduce core to core latency which means increase in performance. well i personally dont really care on ram speed unless you are a gamer that want to squeeze as much gaming power. Due to Zen 2 Architechture, ram speed does actually matter to reduce core to core latency which means increase in performance. Usually, if you know what ram would you buy, you could try to learn to overclock it IF you want the clock. Klevv Bolt X 2666 usually cheap and contains either Hynix CJR or DJR which both are good for overclocking. Crucial ballistix, if you're lucky you got the micron rev.e die you could OC it real good, prolly 3733 C16-19-19-19-36. It's only the matter of the IC you would get if you're buying a ram.

Mixing ram is not recommended if you're not certain abt the IC being used on each ram, but me and my friend, LUCKILY got the same IC (Hynix CJR-VKC (2666mhz) on separate ram (Avexir Core Blue 2666 + Klevv Bolt X 3200), and we did 3600 CL16-19-19-19-36 with tight subtimings at just 1.41v, nothing much, on a 5600G + B450M Steel Legend bios 4.20
