Hey all

So I upgraded my PC a while ago, but I'm sometimes having very poor performance.

When I upgraded I didnt reinstall windows and it worked kinda fine. I once had the problem where it performed very poorly but that was fixed by a reboot.

Then I upgraded to a M2 SSD and reinstalled windows. Yesterday I had the same issue again, and now it occurs for the third time.

This is the userbenchmark I just did https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/19670305
This is the one I did after I upgraded, but before I installed new SSD https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/18579303

My pc really laggs, loading things take forever and i.e pausing youtube takes 3 seconds for the pause animation to show.
A quick reboot usually fixes the problem but this is only temporarily.

Check temps. First and most annoying thing that causes behavior like that its OVERHEAT.
Reboot helps as it lowers the load and allow components to dissipate accumulated heat.

if its heat (looks like it), redo paste, buy new one (6W+) if old looks more like dirt than "paste".

I already reapplied the paste actually since I touched the preapplied with my finger when getting the cooler out of the box . I cleaned it with 96% alcohol and then put on the paste the size of a pea.
These are my current temps - https://prnt.sc/oypf8q https://prnt.sc/oyph7i
I just restarted my pc and the benchmark shows much better results https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/19670899

So you still haven't installed Windows from scratch?

If so, I believe you're reaching breaking point of an old installation?

Cheers!
Yes and no - I have done the factory reset in windows where you could keep your files. Is a hard reset where you format the whole drive needed?

I would say you need to format everything and install from zero. You can always backup your files in an external drive or one of the new SSDs you bought with no problem. Just make sure you take it out of the PC when you install just in case or something?

A clean install is always much easier to diagnose and reduce a lot of the noise around problems and quirks.

Cheers!

Definitely do a fresh install, of windows. After that, make sure you get the latest drivers, from AMD, for your chipset, and Nvidia, for your GPU. When you do the install, make sure you do the latest version of Windows 10, that you can get via the media creation tool. An older install version will give you nothing but headaches. I had that issue with my Ryzen build. Horrible performance, due to really old install file.

Those benchmarks results also show a whopping 84% background usage... What did you have open at the time?
The background usage in your previous runs weren't THIS bad.
Hmm thats really remarkable... My pc was still startingup programs I guess? My cpu usage at the moment is only 3-4% with a lot of programs opened.

I just did another test and this time it indeed was 3% https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/19673784
