Question Ryzen 3800x

Is there any reason to consider ryzen 3800x?

Yeah, looks like it's only ~4% faster, at most, in heavily threaded loads. Kinda disappointing, does make the existence of the 3800X questionable.

Yeah, If they can hit 4.4 or 4.5ghz in an all core overclocks at under 1.4 volts they might be interesting though. If I start to hear about these doing this consistently I might change my view on them a bit. The 3700x I had through here couldn't even do 4.2 stable at 1.4v with LLC cranked up to the point of almost no v droop.

Since you have a 2700x I'd just keep it. Going from an 8 core to another 8 core doesn't sound like something you'd want to do. But maybe the 3900x. That's what I would aim for. That's not to say the 3700x wouldn't be a good upgrade but if you're considering the 3800x I'd just go for Ryzen 9 if your board supports it.

Honestly, the 8 cores isnt the part that matters is the difference between the 2.

It's like upgrading from an I7 2600 to an I7 6700k. The cores might be the same, but the single-threaded performance is greatly improved.

The 3700x is a big improvement from the 2700x all around. Worth upgrading? Not unless you have a high refresh monitor.

Yeah and I wouldn't upgrade from an i7 2600k to a 6700k either. The difference is good but I don't think it warrants an upgrade. The Ryzen 9 3900x is a good upgrade though as far as multicore stuff goes. If I'm going to upgrade I want more than just an ipc increase I want more cores and or threads too. That's me though.

I have the Ryzen 5 3600. I used the 9400f as a temp CPU with an extra motherboard I had lying around until I got the Ryzen CPU and then I sent it back and I've since sold the b360 board for $40. I only had it because I was working on another build project but last minute canceled it. The intel build was for my uncle who swears by intel. I got him a different system already though. And it is intel. Got him a little bit older generation i3. He only uses the pc for web browsing and very light gaming only.

I would only upgrade from 2700x to 3700x if you paly games on 1080p. I luckily returned my 2700x for full price so now 3700X lies on my table. I was just a bit stupid and forgot to update my bios before a returned 2700x so now I have mobo in shop waiting for bios update.

Make a new thread for that so you get a more specific answer to your usage case.

As a general statement, you're better off saving money with the Ry3700X and spend it on cooling, SSD, better GPU, etc.

No way I would go for 3800X. I had both of them ordered, and I was going to buy the one which came first. 3700X did, what a surprise Huh. And I couldn't be more happy. Auto OC gets to 4.4ghz at every core and all core frequency is around 4Ghz when under load with prime95. Also it reached ONLY 69C with STOCK cooler. Just amazing, I'm saving that extra 100 bucks (not USA, bigger price difference) over the 3800X and buying myself a 2080 Super, if I can snatch myself one.
