Currently I am looking to buy the AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor. However, Intel released their i7-8700K CPU. I was wondering which one is better?

Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor V i7-8700K CPU

My CPU, GPU and MotherBoard will be down below:

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor
GPU: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card
MotherBoard: MSI - B350 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard

So with these three would it make sense to go to a i7-8700K CPU. I want to play high FPS games like PUBG and GTA 5 at max settings, I know this comes down to the GPU but I heard CPU's can increase FPS too. I am looking for difference in FPS, Price, Durability and Warranty and Guarantee that it is worth it.

AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor = (£189.19 @ Amazon UK)
Intel Core i7-8700K CPU = (£267.9576)

The Intel i7-8700K specs are listed on this website:

The Ryzen 5 1600 specs are listed on this website:
https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-5-1600

All Price forms I would like in GBP (£) English Sterling please.

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in response. We'll know for sure in a few days when the CPUs are released what the final verdict is. The Ryzen is still going to be cheaper, the 8600k will likely be another $50 higher or so, depending on launch markup, ect. The i5 and i7 both require a Z370 1151 socket motherboard. All the CPUs require DDR4 RAM as well. The unlocked i5 and i7 don't come with coolers, so that cost needs factored in as well. All together, the Intel platform, CPU itself, cooler will all cost well above the Ryzen system. I'm just saying, in the previously mentioned gaming scenario, the i5 and i7 will be faster. How much depends on games. This is the kind of info that will be shown in a few days.

So would it be worth spending around £150 more on it? Or do you think the better thing to do will be to stick to the Ryzen 5 1600?

If you are playing on 1080P, using high refresh rate monitor, and budget isn't an issue the 8700k is the best choice for you of the two. However, if you are only gaming, the 8600k is really a great choice as it still has 6 cores/6 threads and much cheaper. It would still be faster( in gaming scenario mentioned earlier) than Ryzen 5 1600. If you game at 1440P or 4K, the situation changes.

I agree with this. We don't know for sure yet, but I'm willing to bet the i5-8600K will be faster gaming at 1080p than the Ryzen 5 1600. I'm sure it will also be more expensive than the Ryzen 5.

Do nothing untill you see what the I5-8600K can do, particularly with overclocking.
GTA5 is largely single threaded and depends most on a fast single master thread.
I doubt that 12 threads will be any more useful than 4 or 6 threads for your games.

You said the 8600k is really a great choice and "much cheaper" ???
the Intel CPU is about £350 and the ryzen 5 1600 is about £100 ???

I won't be playing GTA 5 only btw, I will play games like PUBG and other games like that.
You say don't even bother for the i7-8600k if the new i5 is good enough?

So you are saying forget the ryzen and the i7-8600k and get the i5-8600k? Which is cheaper, ryzen or i5? And will I have to change my motherboard because of this or will I have to get a cpu cooler?

Ok so the cheaper option will be the Ryzen 5 1600 but the wiser option, will be obvious within the next few days when the next i5 will be released.
