So Ryzen 5 is out and well... it's a bit disappointing that it still has the same performance as a Ryzen 7 would have (gaming performance wise) I was certain about my choice to wait for Ryzen 5 but it repeated R7 again. What would you guys think would be better for gaming? I am not gonna replace my pc for 4-5 years so I need a future proof PC.

For gaming there is no doubt i7 7700k only. Processing performance per core is still better on Intel. Even i5 7600 is a bit stronger than Ryzen 5 1600x, then we talk about gaming.
But i7 7700k is in a higher price category, so it's up to you to decide.

I am planning to do benchmark videos when I build my own pc though... Should I stick with the 1600x?

honestly, youd be fine with either. i have a 7700k because i already had a 1151 mobo. if you can make use of extra cores and plan to do a lot of multithreaded work than ryzen isnt a bad choice. i only game and browse the web on my desktop so in that case a 7700k is the better choice.

just dont get your hopes up about OCing the 7700k. A number of thew actual retail chips have terrible temps and little OC headroom due to poor quality control by intel regarding the tim. im on my 2nd 7700k and temps still suck even with an h115i. but even at stock clocks youre still getting better gaming performance and even a chip at 5ghz only delivers an average of 1-2 more fps vs stock.

Intel would probably be better overall, but it's not so simple. The AMD Ryzen 5 1600x is less expensive and it offers competitive performance in gamins. It is overall slower in games when compared against Intel's Core i5-7600K and i7-7700K in gaming tests.

What is really important is what GPU you plan to use? If you go with AMD and you can recycle the extra budget into a faster GPU, then that would be a better option than getting an Intel Core i7-7700K with a lower-end GPU.

since you plan on making videos im guessing you mean steaming and/or editing, the 1600 would do a better job in those areas, but when it comes to gaming, if you are gaming at 1080p especially, the 7700k will give you better performance out of a gtx 1070. if you do go ryzen though, dont buy an x model, its a waste of money. the overclocking on ryzen is rather weak and since they are all unlocked the 1600 can simply be OCed to 1600x speeds.
