[SOLVED] Ryzen 5 2600 overheating on idle and under load(game play)

Hi everyone,

I have been using my Ryzen 5 2600 for more than a year now and have never struggled with high temps.

Full specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
M0therboard: Tomahawk b350
ram: 2x 8gb Crucial BLS8G4D26BFSBK Ballistix Sport LT
ssd/hdd: 1x 250gb nvm 1x 1tb western digital WD10EZEX Blue
GPU: amd rx 590 8gb
PSU: 700w Cobra power
OS: windows 10 education
BIOS version: 1.H0

Recently i noticed it spiked OVER 120 degrees Celsius.
Always been using the stock Wraith stealth cooler

I have changed thermal paste
Secured cpu cooler properly
Boosted cpu cooler speeds
Removed side panel for extra air flow
Put a massive fan pumping air from the side

since this, it has gone down to between 88 - 96 when on idle(on startup) then over 105 when in a game.

keep in mind it reaches these temps within minutes of being in a game, losing lots of fps, Could this be the reason?

possible worry is it could be my motherboards temp sensor but not sure how to test that.

I have run out of ideas, not sure what else to do.

please help.

We're going to need a little more information from your end. When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list them like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS: version(not edition) of OS(if on Windows 10)

BIOS version for your motherboard? Include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. Airflow in your case? Ambient room air temps?

I recently was clearing my inventory and came across a box for the Ryzen 5 2600, box was a leftover from a client build and the box seemed to have something in it. I then opened up to find the wraith stealth cooler that came with the processor. I then recalled that the build I'd done for said client was given a Cryorig H7 Plus cooler since the build was meant to under rendering work. You should look for an aftermarket cooler as well.

Reset CMOS just to clear any illogical settings that might be causing this.

If running on full stock settings doesn't help you probably have a badly mounted CPU cooler. It's easy to get mounting screws cross threaded so you think they're tight...but they're not. It might be worthwhile to get a better cooler anyway, a Hyper212 would do great and be amazingly quite in comparison to the Stealth.
