ryzen 5 2600 , sapphire nitro + 8gb rx 580 , low fps

I have a Ryzen 5 2600 on an Asrock AB350 Pro4 mobo, and I just got an RX 580 gpu and installed, and only getting 30 fps on grand theft auto 5. I thought I downloaded all the drivers, im on 19.1.1 in amd radeon setings. what am I missing? this is my first time build so im hopefully its nothing bad. I updated the bios to 5.40 on the mobo. thanks for the advice

I changed everything to high instead of very high and am getting around 62fps now. I just figured and hoped I could use max settings on a game several years old. oh well

An RX 580 is about as good as a 1060. Both are mid-range cards, and GTA V is a demanding game. While it is several years old, it has been optimised for PC in 2015, not console in 2013. Tweak the settings to find the sweetspot. If you want higher settings on a AAA title, you need to upgrade to the 1070/2060 margin, something that is relatively cheap nowadays. don't forget that GTA V is a consistent title that still gets updates today, and it has a very large map. Places on the map that skimp FPS for everybody include downtown Los Santos, and the thick forests of Paleto bay. Never over-estimate the power of your system. Keep in mind that 'very high' means ultra in GTA V, so your GPU is rendering textures over your native resolution, usually at 1440p or 4K. I don't see the advantage to this.

So basically what your saying is, i would not see any difference between very high and high anyways since im running a 1080p monitor?

No, since textures are rendered in a different way beyond my understanding. I do know that while the textures would look crispier, since it is a higher resolution regardless, there's still no need to run the higher setting on a card of your grade. The game still looks fantastic on the high setting (which once again, is next to ultra on GTA) It's also good to remember that while the RX 580 is fantastic, it is also a mid range card, and you shouldn't over-estimate its potential.

Basically what I'm saying is that you don't have an issue here with any hardware or software, and that your game is running exactly how it should on your system, so you have no need to worry. You can try tweaking the settings better to your liking, however. For example I like to sacrifice post-processing quality for MSAA.
To get a real FPS/quality difference though, an upgrade is in order here.

Keep in mind that there are multiple threads online that provide best settings for fps specific to your card.

right on, thanks for the info, ill have to look those up cuz most that stuff is honestly gibberish to me! i just upgraded from a gtx 1050 2gb, so i can definitely already see a difference, and im not planning on getting a 4k monitor or anything, 1080 is good enough for me so i think the rx580 is just the sweet spot for me. thanks!
