For around $200 would the 3600 be my best bet for upgrading my gaming pc?

Playing 1080p 144hz mostly FPS games.

It'll be coupled with X570 Aorus Elite and 2x8 GB RAM that I haven't decided on yet. It'll be working with my GTX 970 G1 Gaming until I upgrade it down the line. Probably to a 5700XT or possibly 2060 Super, something along those lines.

Solution
My vote is yes! When choosing ram, pick DDR4-3200MHz dual channel kit or 3600Mhz if you have the funds and if you choose an X570 board. Make and model of the PSU? How old is that unit?

PSU is a bit of a weak link I'm afraid or so I've been told recently. Bought in 2015.
