I did some temperature and performance testing with the 3600 and its stock cooler on an open air test bench today. My thermostat is set to 70 F so ambient should be pretty close to that. The p95 26.6 results are a little scary but if I'm being honest it did better than I thought it would. Settings are stock besides loading up XMP.

I installed the CPU, RAM, and PSU from the previous test system into a new build with a Deep Cool Gammaxx GT 120mm tower air cooler. I did some further temp and performance testing for comparison. While not an apples to apples comparison of the previous test, I think this a pretty good real world example of what an affordable air cooler will do for a 3600.

What was voltage/power/temp like at idle with the 4.2G all-core overclock?

What do you think it would take, voltage-wise and cooling for the processor, to get a 4.3G all-core overclock? If that's even possible...i ask because I've seen several claims they've done 4.3G and even 4.4. I'm mostly just curious how it's scaling.

I used a fixed manual voltage so its the same at idle as it is at load. With the exception of a small bit of v droop at load. I'm using fairly aggressive LLC to minimize V droop. I opened HWI64 before starting P95 so you can see the idle stats in the minimum column. Idle was 35c. Every CPU is different in how it overclocks. I couldn't push much more voltage through it even if I wanted to (which I don't) because I can't keep the CPU cool enough. The temps start to sky rocket past this voltage. This particular CPU hits the voltage/freq wall at 42.5. I could have had it stable there under 1.4v but temps were too high with this cooler. Around 1.35v is probably the max I'd run 24-7 btw. That's as reported on SV12 TFN in HWI64. If your motherboard doesn't have LLC you'll probably need more voltage in the bios. I seriously doubt anyone is running one of these fully stable at 4.4 all core without some pretty serious cooling and/or unsafe voltages that are degrading the CPU. IDK maybe there are some good lottery winning chips out there.

That's what I pretty much figured was the case... one of those just get it to boot and run a couple cinebench runs to get some numbers kind of things.

I am kind of curious whether strapping on a 240mm AIO, or even 360, would cool it enough to allow 4.3, or maybe even 4.25, at reasonable volts. But then, we really don't know what reasonable volts are for this thing yet do we.

Not really. I'm going with 1.35 for now since that's pretty close to what they push at stock when fully loaded. der8auer seems to think 1.35 -1.4 max is where you should be. I returned the 3600x I bought for another 3600 today. I have a 240 AIO i could throw on there with the new 3600 while I'm getting the x370 strix F updated and tested on the test bench. Stay tuned.

240 AIO results are in. Different CPU than the first 2 tests. I was able to achieve 4.275 ghz @ 1.4v with L5 LLC. Passed IBT, an hour of p95 26.6, and a four hour 8 gb memory realbench run. It seems stable.

EDIT: I should probably mention that I don't think this is a safe 24-7 voltage nor do I recommend it. This was just an experiment for my own curiosity that I thought I would share.

Seems like it runs very stable. Beautiful results too. Keep it up!!!
I wouldn't recommend anyone run their CPU at 1.4v 24-7. This would probably be a suicide mission for the CPU. This was purely an experiment to see how thermals, power usage, and performance were when really pushing the voltage. This testing shows the 3600 pull 1.3-1.34v at heavy load with stock settings. This CPU did run solid as a rock at 4.2ghz at 1.35v. I'm not sure what the official word from AMD is on safe all core load voltage. Considering the stock all core was 1.34 on the AIO in p95 I tend to think 1.35 should be safe for 24-7.
