[SOLVED] Ryzen 5 3600X vs i5 10600k

So, I am looking to build my new rig and was wondering what CPUs are good for gaming in the range of the Ryzen 5 3600X. I have seen i5 10600k a little bit higher priced in my local market and was wondering what CPU would be a better choice at this point with value standpoint as the 10 series uses LGA 1200 socket so I suppose the motherboards would costlier at this point of time. So can anyone suggest me what should I go for and you can suggest other CPU options if there are better available around this price point.

Yes, its for gaming and I have a 1660ti at the moment and in a few months I am looking to buy a 2k or high refresh rate monitor but currently, I have a 1080 60 fps monitor

the 10600k is abot 12% faster, if its cheap enough, this is a no brainer, 10600k, it runs at 5.0 or 5.1 across all cores easily, matching pretty much a 10900k, or at least gets very close to it.

If your target FPS is just 60 then the AMD should cost less using a mid range B550 board and a aftermarket cooler. The regular 3600 should cost even less.

The 10600K cost more as does the Z490 boards and requires a better cooler.

Now is a terrible time to buy, unless you want a 3rd gen, on the cheap, once the fire sales start. 4th gen Ryzen is supposed to be announced, Oct 8. The 3600x isn't worth the added cost, vs the 3600. The price difference is quite large. Given your graphics card, there is no sense spending more on a 10600k.

Do you mean that 1660ti will bottleneck i5 10600k?

The 1660ti will hold back either CPU to be honest. Not that it is a bad thing, as that means you have upgrade potential. 3600xt really isn't worth it either, unless you really want to overclock.

There IS another consideration though, and that is this, if it's available to you. Would do just as well, for less, in the majority of games.

That board would force that ram to run at 2666, and makes the 10400 worse than even a 3300x, with 3200mhz ram, in gaming.

No, that board, and ALL B460 boards, support up to 2933mhz memory operation. The difference between that and 3000mhz would be negligible.

Actually, all of the socket 1200 boards support up to 2933mhz memory. It is native for Comet lake locked boards.

For gaming, a balanced gamer will budget about 2x the cost of the processor for the graphics card.
For a $280 GTX1660ti, a $140 processor like a i3-10100 would be appropriate.

A suitable B460 based motherboard will be about $75.
Intel does not depend on fast ram for performance. You can save with a 2666 speed ram.
If you have a better budget, a i5-10600K is a winner.

Why didn't I notice that before? You're right of course, but I never noticed that they had differentiated memory support by CPU tier. That's lame as hell. Bad enough that it has to be differentiated by locked or unlocked SKU on Intel parts, now by tier as well. Dumb.
