I'm thinking of upgrading my 3200g and currently choosing between buying the 4650g or the 5600g. The 5600g is $40 more expensive than the 4650g and that's a significant difference for me. I'm not really looking to play graphically intensive games right now and I plan on buying a discrete GPU in the near future. Is the $40 difference significant in terms of performance? Are there major disadvantages to using a 4650g? Your insights are highly appreciated!

If you are going to buy in the future a discrete graphics card for gaming, then buy the stronger 5600G up front.
Both the 4650G and 5600G have 12 processing threads.
The passmark performance rating for the 4650G is 16427 vs. 20720 for the 5600G. That is important if you can load all cores with a multithreaded batch app.
Arguably of more importance for gaming is the single thread performance rating 2664 for the 4650g vs. 3188 for the 5600g.
(your 3200g is 4 threads 7192/2224)

If you can, spend the extra $40 for the 5600G
The price will sting for a short time.
If you do not, you will forever be second guessing yourself.
