My Ryzen 5 5600X is around 40C at idle. But when I did some moderate gaming it quickly jumped to 89C. I think the CPU usage was only about 30%. I'm only using the stock cooler now. Should I just upgrade the cooler? My case is a little on the small side: Rosewill CHALLENGER ATX Mid-Tower Gaming PC Computer Case. I'm not sure what would be a good fit. The ARCTIC COOLING ACFRE00077A 92mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler looks smaller than most. But I don't know how much better the cooling wold be.

What is ambient where you are?

I like Rosewill cases. They tend to be a solid option for the price. That case is well ventilated. Are you using supplemental fans with it as well?
The temperature outside is 76F. The high temp today was 83F. Not sure what it is inside the house, but it doesn't feel very hot.

I'm just using the 3 case fans that came preinstalled. The top fan vent is partially obstructed. The left side panel if off. Is it normal for the 5600X to get that hot with the stock cooler?

The ARCTIC COOLING ACFRE00077A 92mm would not be an improvement over the stock cooler. This would be better:

Your case can accommodate a CPU cooler up to 160mm, this Noctua is 158mm tall.

I just checked the specs for my case. It says the max CPU cooler height is 160 mm. This cooler is only 154 mm, so it might be a better fit. I'm still not sure how to judge what the cooling efficiency is on any of these.

The 212 is also a good choice and does provide a smidge more clearance than the Noctua previously recommended. It's cooling performance (and quietness) will be an improvement over the stock cooler.
