[SOLVED] Ryzen 5 5600x good enough for rtx 3080

Solution
Normally anything with more than 4 cores is the minimum but this is also dependent on a couple factors:
  1. They types of games you play
  2. The resolution of your main monitor
A lot of games are single threaded optimized still so even 6 cores is more than enough. And then your monitor resolution will affect whether or not your gaming experience is CPU or GPU dependent. 1080p monitors are CPU dependent and your 3080 will be heavily underutilized (unless you have a 240Hz monitor) and a 1440p and above will use your GPU more.

EDIT: Your title says 3600X and your description says 5600X. Since they have the same amount of cores, my answer still applies, but you should clarify.

What will be your resolution?
3080 is about what it takes for 4k gaming.
But at that resolution the processor is not so much the limiter as the gpu.
I would think that a 5600x would be as good as it gets for gaming.
If 5600x is hard to buy, you may find intel 11th gen to be equally good and more available.

New Egg is rocking a deal on the 5600x. Microcenter is rocking a deal on the 3700x. Considering purchasing one or the other to upgrade my kids PC. 5600x is clearly better for gaming but I bet the 3700x is considerably better in day to day use.
