Hi All,

Recently I ran into issues with my 5900x giving me a black screen.

Due to me living rural there is a lack of support where I live so I decided to see if it was my motherboard but didn't think to try see if my old 3900X worked in my old board.

Turns out the 3900X works in my new board but my 5900x still isn't working I have download the newest bios for the board version E7D54AMS.A70

Board model is MSI x570s torpedo max

When I swap back to the 5900x it seems to boot but black screens on me with not debug lights indicating that something wrong.

Has anyone else had this issue before and would be able to help me get this working as I am assuming if it was dead I wouldn't be able to boot up.

Hey there,

After the bios update., did you 'clear CMOS'? This is an important step. Typically you start by taking the CMOS battery out, and then short two pins on the mobo, The pins will be marked 'CLRTC'. Check your mobo manual to be sure. Once done, put the battery back in, and reboot again.#

Hopefully that sots it out. Let us know how it goes.

We'll try and rule things out one by one.

If everything esle works with your old CPU, that would point in the directions of the CPU.

Are there any bent pins on the 5950x?
Visually the 5900x looks perfect no discolouration or bent pins.

Just tried to clear cmos, and jbat but had no luck.

Have you tried with just 1 stick of ram? Try different slots as well just in case.

Probably not the issue, but have you tried a different monitor? I've ran into a issue with a 5800x on a B550, the 3600 that was in it worked, but the 5800x wouldn't, updated the bios and everything, just changing the monitor as stupid as that sounds it worked for some reason.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah tried one stick of ram and didn't have any luck both a2 and b2.

I have duel monitors how ever and neither of them seem to work.

I have a feeling the memory controller on the CPU as failed on me and the motherboard is not detecting the issue.
