Ryzen 7 1700x clocks going to 2.2 when trying to OC

So I just got my self a new 1700x with a MSI x370 Xpower gaming titanium MOBO and I'm trying to OC the CPU. When I change the clock and reboot the setting in bios gets updated to the clock I set but when I boot up ryzen master says the clock is 2.2 and the performance is drastically reduced. I am brand new to overclocking so it is totally possible that I am doing something wrong, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere... Please help before I go insane!

don't touch base clock, but multiplier...

I didn't see that option in the msi bios

Not a fan of ryzen master but you can start with that. Just reset cmos battery and download Ryzen master.

I have a thermaltake floe riing. I just discovered that if I leave voltage on auto I can take it from 3.4 to 3.5 and it works fine, but as soon as I touch the voltage it goes to 2.2

what voltage did you do? probably too low causing it to downclock.

I had the same thought, but I took it up to 1.4v on a 3.7 clock and the same issue. From what I understand 1.4v is pretty high. Could it be that I only have the 8pin atx plugged in and not both an 8 and 4 pin?

only 8 pin for cpu is needed. I guess you did the wrong voltage... Can you screen shot it and post here? imgur is pretty good.

So that is what I have from cpuz, ryzen master, and my bios. As you can see they are all different. I saw a post that said it will be right if I put load on the cpu, but I ran cinebench and got scores that look like it is running at 2.2

Let's start from stock, reset cmos, and test, see if it runs 3.4.
Then we increase clock and voltage slowly.
If it runs 3.4 with everything auto.
Try voltage 1.3625v and set clock to 3.5 and retry. always increase clock speed before voltage.

as soon as I tough the voltage, regardless of clock speed, straight to 2.2 when I load into windows

Can you check what BIOS version do you have?
Did you install all the drivers from motherboard website?

MSI live update 6 says that the bios are v1.6 and says that this is the latest version. I haven't installed any different bios

I mean after you install OS, did you install all the drivers, not bios, from MSI website?
