Hello,

As my other threads suggest, I am making my first Ryzen build.

I have two options regarding the CPU: I can go for a Ryzen 7 1700X for €125, a Ryzen 7 2700 for ~€135 or a Ryzen 5 3600 for about €145.

What should I do?

Thanks for your reponses,
Ángel

For sure, go for Zen 2 architecture. (Ryzen 5 3600)
I also suggest this.
you gain way more forward compatibility with faster SSD's, thunderbolt, USB ...

and if you use 8 cores, they are identical :)
If you manage to slap more than 12 cores (most games & programs still cannot) then 1700x starts to be faster.
but the difference should be few % only in favor of 1700x. General speedup from 3600 in everyday stuff will give you more, than those once-in-a-month gains on very heavy things from 1700x.

Totally agree! 7nm compared to 14nm, plus enhancements in architecture (IPC, FP operations, etc) are enough reasons.
Ryzen 5 3600 offers higher L3 cache and lower power consumption, btw. (less considerable)

To be honest, in cinebench r20, my 3600 scores higher on multicore bench than my 1700x did at stock. However, if you overclock the 1700x, then it got the lead back. The single thread ipc for games really helps the 3600 if that is the primary use.

3600, there isn't any point in going with an older generation of processor, the cores of the 3600 are significantly more powerful than the 1700X, and more than makes up it's lack of those two extra cores.
