[SOLVED] Ryzen 7 2700x to 3700x upgrade worth it?

Hello all,

I've been using a Ryzen 7 2700x for a couple years now and I game on 1440p, with an RX 5700 xt (mainly cod: warzone) and I was wondering would upgrading to a 3700x make any significant improvements in performance at 1440p? I've been wanting the 3700x because I don't think I could go back down to a 6-core chip and the Ryzen 7 3700x seems reasonably priced in my area. However, if I only see 5 to 10 frames improvement, I don't think an upgrade would be worth it. I guess i'm asking if there would be a significant increase in gaming?

It will depend on the game but I would expect at 1440p your limiting factor is the 5700xt and not the 2700x. Try dropping the resolution to 1080p, if you see a good jump in FPS then you are gpu limited and not cpu limited.

I used to upgrade like that back in the day, but as of late I don't see it worth it for such small incremental updates and the pain of upgrading. I find if I do a lifecycle management of 4-6 years, when I upgrade I get more of a "WOW" factor. Unless i had a huge issue I wouldn't do it.

It depends on the game really. A 2080ti and 2060s is used in this review, which your GPU would fall in between somewhere as 5700xt trades blows with a 2070s.

For the money, not really. If you found one used and cheap, maybe.

3700X is not great for gaming, if you want a noticeable upgrade, go for the 5600X or 5800X if you can find them ofc.
