Hello everyone,

I'm planning on upgrading my cpu and motherboard.
RTX 2070 8GB
RAM 16 GB (2x8Gb) DDR4 3000MHz
i7-6700
ASRock b150m-hdv

I am thinking about the i7 8700 or the R7 2700x. Which one do u think is best for GAMING. For the ryzen I have MSI x470 GAMING PLUS AM4 motheboard. It can overclock and I'm planning on overclocking since I can overclock my ram and gpu aswell. Right now I think I like the r7 a little more. I know the i7 8700 is a little better for gaming but I dont have enough money for the k version so I would love the overclockable 2700x. What do u guys think is the best cpu in my case for gaming? Also think about the long term.
+ is the R7 stock cooler good enough for overclocking? and what is the name of that cooler? If I have to, I will buy a new cooler later on. ('tell me a good cooler)

THNX for taking ur time. sorry for my english

Solution
I believe it is the AMD Wraith Prism, a very nice looking cooler with RGB. It can only overclock maybe .1-.2GHz. I would suggest replacing the stock thermal paste with some better (MX-4) if you plan on replacing the cooler later. I used the stock cooler and paste for about 1-2 days and when I went to remove it it was a bit like glue; it stuck to the CPU and pulled the CPU out with it. :/ It even chipped my brand new CPU's IHS. 🙁 🙁 I suppose heating it up with Prime95 before removing it would have prevented it, but I haven't had that issue with any of my aftermarket pastes.

I think the i7-8700 would be slightly faster, but not near as fun if you like tinkering with overclocking. I probably wouldn't expect the R7 2700X to be much...

I know but my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu for 20%, I have the money for i7-8700, do u think it's worth to upgrade to that cpu?

How did you find that out? That sounds like thebottlenecker.com, which isn't always indicative of real-world scenarios.

Unless you are seeing 100% CPU usage in games then it's not bottle-necking. (which doesn't always apply, but for multi-threaded games with Intel CPUs it does.)

that's how I found out xD, anyway, fpr 144 fps gaming do u think I should go with overclockable r7 or i78700,
