[SOLVED] Ryzen 7 2700x with RTX 3070

No, 3070 is a fine GPU and has quite a bit of upside at 1080p. What is your current GPU? And you will need to check if your power supply can handle it.

Your CPU is a little older however, and you might think about picking up a 5 series.

Even the budget 5600x would show noticeable improvement at 1080p, and there are some other great options like the 5800x as well as the big dog 5800x3D.

My current gpu is a rtx 2060.I am pretty sure i have a 650w psu. If i got the 5800x i would have to get new ram since it does better at 3200mhz. My ram is 3000mhz. Maybe a new cooler, i still have the stock 2700x cooler

If you are looking at the plain 5800x, consider the 5700x. Close to the same performance but it’s a 65 watt cpu instead of 105 like the 5800x. So you should then be able to use the cooler from the 2700x fairly easily.

As for ram you wouldn’t have to get new ram. Would it perform slightly better, sure, but you probably aren’t talking a lot better. But ram is cheap right now for ddr4, so maybe grab a 32gb 3600mhz kit. Then you can sell your 2060 to help pay for the new cpu, as well as sell the 2700x.

The PSU police are going to want to know what specific brand of PSU you have, like make and model. You don't need to upgrade ram, the 3000hz is fine.

5600x comes with a cooler, so no worries there.

You mind find this article interesting on what to expect at 1080p gaming with various AM4 CPUs and different GPUs

b450 mobo take 5700x/5600x with a bios update correct? If thats the case i could add it in with rtx 3070/ti. I would buy the gpu before the cpu. Another thought was building a new system but i love my nzxt h400i but i feel putting stuff in is easier then taking out.

The 2700x is 105w too.

Check your specific board support CPU support list, but most mainstream mobos will support 5 series.

You might need to upgrade your bios to the latest version.

i checked my pc and all i see is a 6pin connector for my rtx 2060. Not sure if there is another 2 pin hiding somewhere.

3070 requires a 650w PSU, so you are good there.

You might have an eight pin tucked into your case, or since your PSU is modular, it may be in the original box somwhere. Worst case is you would have to order a replacement cable.

Ill have to check again in my case.
the build is looking like a 5700x with rtx 3070/ti depending on the deal off of ebay and ill be using the 2700x stock cooler so ill need thermal paste.

For paste I like Arctic mx4. As far as gpu, 3070 is good, consider an rx 6700xt or 6750xt as alternates if you are open to amd. They’ll be pretty close in performance to the 3070 but should be priced lower. I was looking the other day on Newegg and an rx 6700xt was about 369 iirc. The 3070 for a new unit sold by Newegg was over 500.

3070s on ebay open box/used are around $400 and I saw 3070 tis for under $500

Yes but that’s used. 3000 series are going on 2 years old. Just keep in mind a lot of those were probably used for mining. Don’t get me wrong I bought my 6700xt from eBay. Just really watch the feedback, and when you get the card run it hard so you can use eBay’s money back guarantee if needed.

If you really wanted to up things here’s something to check out.

Here’s the card I bought about 6 months back. Not from the same seller but a good deal for the money.

It depends what you want. Like right now for example an rx 6900xt like this is around 650.

Probably comparable to a 3080ti/3090. The question becomes how long will you have to wait for a 4070 and what will be the cost? Totally up to you though. You may also wait until December as I think amds 7900xtx and 7900xt models arrive. But around $1000. So definitely your decision on how much you want to spend and how long to wait.

It should support 5000 series. Double check but even my asrock b350 supports them. If you go to the 5800x, you may consider the 5800x3d. More money but then you should be good a few more years.
Which one would pair up good with a rtx 3070 a 5600x or 5700x . Both are really cheap right now. i just want the best performance in gaming for a while.

As mentioned above, the 5700x is a great option for you.

Your PSU, the CX is not suitable for a gaming rig. I wouldn't pair it with an RTX/RX GPU. You need something a little stronger. Wattage isn't a reliable guage. Quality is. Whilst Corsair make some really good PSU's (RMX/RMi/RM/TXM) the CX is for basic desktop systems.

On the ram, Ryzen does like faster ram, for sure. The biggest gains come from going from 2400 to 3200mhz, where the difference is anywhere from 5-15% performance increase, task dependent. Above 3200mhz and the benefits drop off somewhat, until you hit 3600mhz. At 3600mhz, you can run the Infinity Fabric/Mem Clock/Mem Controller Clock at a 1:1:1 ratio. This enables the best latency and can have a nice impact.
