so ive been looking to upgrade my cpu because my i7 7700 is bottlenecking my gpu. i was first leaning towards something like an i7 9700k until i saw how the ryzen 7 3700x compared to it. from what ive seen, the ryzen gets barely lower framrates in games compared to the i7, but has 16 threads, way lower cpu usage and is around $100 cheaper. so should i go for the 3700x or something more expensive? and any motherboard recommendations? thanks.

Solution
The difference between 3700x and higher models like 3900x is more about the extra cores and threads rather than better gaming performance. Because of that, 3700x is good enough for gaming with 2080 Super.
Here's a comparison chart and video.
