i just installed my ryzen 7 3700x with a dark rock 4 and my idle temps are between 40-50c is that normal? im nervous when i start gaming it's going to shoot up and i might blue screen.

Solution
Sounds just like my R5 3600 and i was confused at first but yes that sounds perfectly normal the temps shouldnt spike as much on load like playing a game or running a stress test etc because ryzen boosts on "bursty" workloads to higher clokcspeeds. But if your load temps are above 80c at constant, i recommend checking the cooler that its properly mounted etc. If you are using cinebench to check your max load temps it might go well above 80c for some reason (reached 84c for me and on the other hand on prime95 i barely reached 75c. Remember to use Ryzen master and hwinfo64 because those two seem the most accurate when it comes to ryzen temps.
You are one of many caught of guard by that.
It's boosting to max clock across a couple of cores, waking up the other cores as needed, as opposed to Intel's spreading the load across all their cores.

Stick to using Ryzen Master if you aren't already, as other monitoring programs unintentionally wake up the dormant cores, making temps appear higher than they actually are.

ok and thank you, yea i'm just nervous because my old cpu the 1700 would never peak this high on idle and i use to stream and game on the 1700 and it only went to like 60-70c when doing both on the same pc. So seeing the 3700x on 50c idle has me a bit nervous when i'll try and stream and game on the same pc. so far im gaming and it doesnt seem to shoot up too high

High idle temps are normal. It’s always bouncing cores with PBO boost enabled. It’s the new normal.

Load temps. Want to see the worst case stress test that I’m aware of for Ryzen cooling? Try a Folding @home cpu WU. You’ll find out how good your cooling really is.
That's good to know - I was freaking out about the temps on my new 3900X, I feel a little better now.
