What cpu should i choose i want something that will last many years thats why is was leaning towards the 3900x but i don't know because it bottlenecks any gpu on the market

Solution
Yes, the 3900x is priced lower than the new cpu. That's normal with new releases.

The leaked 5600x beats the 3900x in single threaded performance, will be interesting to see how the 5800x compares.

I run a 3800x and have no issues with running out of cores. The 3900x is recommended with heavy multi-threaded workloads. The 3900x offer little to no benefit for gaming over a 3700x.

The 3900x has a higher TDP and will require very good cooling compared to the 5800x. The 3900x comes with the Wraith Prism but it is not capable of preventing thermal throttling. You'll be buying a cooler with either choice but the lower TDP of the 5800x won't require as much cooling capacity as the 3900x.

Yes, the 5800x is going to be more expensive. But...

If you want an upgrade then I’d wait till you get a BIOS update and get the 5800x.
When does it come out and how much will it be
Its not worth buying ryzen 7 5800x which costs $450 you can get a 3900x for under $400 that price is not worth paying $450 for 8c/16t at that price, you wanted a pc that will serve you for a long time right? 3900x is where i believe you should put you money on. About gpu i guess 3070 would be fine for 1080p at high refresh rate.
Here's what ill recommend;
Get the monitor first and see how your pc performs if your pc performs then no need to upgrade or you could get more 16gb of ram, storage whatever.

If it doesn't and you have decided to get new cpu and gpu then imo get 3900x and 3070. Yes 5800x will be faster but more price for 8c??? Nope. Its a similar situation with how amd was with Intel, Intel with faster and less core, and amd with more cores but a bit slow as you also get a i9 10900k under &450 with 10c. Anyway back to amd, my money would be on 3900x and if the 5800x comes at a good price in black friday then it could be considered. But first wait for the reviews for 5000 series.

Yes, the 5800x is going to be more expensive. But when you plan to upgrade get the best tech you can at the time is my suggestion.

Benchmarks will be out in a couple of days.

Buyers remorse, try to prevent it.

If the primary purpose is gaming, the 5800X will vastly superior to the 3900X largely thanks to having all of its L3 and cores in a single CCD/CCX.

Yes i agree and feel the same to get the best when we upgrade but the scenario is- it was same with Intel and amd , so even though amd performed a bit slower we considered amd speaking in terms of value now this situation repeats however amd competing with itself. Yes the 5800x will have higher single core performance but imo 12c will last a bit longer. And yes @Obsnacks is getting 1080p monitor with 240hz monitor and 8c will all is that he need but when 12c is available for less and it's Zen 2 we are talking about which is new so i can't ignore 3900x as deal. And probably the resolution will be kinda a bottleneck since he won't get 240 fps at AAA, esports title i don't think so 3900x or a 5800x will make a difference in benchmark-Yes but in real life experience it won't make alot where it's probably +100fps

Yes the 5800x will have higher single core performance but imo 12c will last a bit longer.
According to AMD's own slides, Zen 3 is upwards of 56% faster in games, likely those most heavily impacted by the multi-CCX architecture, which would also likely be the most heavily threaded ones. So 12 cores won't necessarily make the 3900X competitive against the 5800X.

the 7nm node on the ryzen 5 5600x is a mind blower....it is an exceptional piece of silicon. It beats the i9 10900k in terms of gaming and desktop functions by 1% so you could say they are the same . It has better 6core -clock speed than the i9 9900k even though it has 2 cores less than it. Much better memory latency and shockingly better OC'ed speed. And this is the base model (5600X) worth 299 dollars. Now imagine the speed which you will get out of a 5800X. Cores and thread are not the only things that you see in a processor. Many things are to be taken into consideration like node size, number of capacitors, latency between transistors, etc. So yea one should definitely wait for the ryzen 5th gen and get that instead of the current 3rd Gen. Much smarter choice.

I agree with all of you ik that the 5800x and the 5600x are faster and beat the i9, ik how much raw performance and powerrr the ryzen 5000 series have i am not saying by any means that Zen 3 is slow, a month or two ago ryzen 9 3900x was $389 at Amazon and currently it's $458(which is not worth the price is too high now it's generally alot cheaper) but at $389
In terms of price to performance of what you get i really like the R9 3900x. However i will agree that 5000 series is fast that was never my problem the problem was the price, when ryzen 5000 series comes to store and it blows everyone's mind and if the performance is so significant that it's worth to pay$60 over less core compared to 3900x -Yes that might change my mind however i completely agree with all of your opinion it's that the pricing dint seem correct to me especially because 3900x is available at lower price. I also get why would amd increase its price since now they really don't have competition and they are at the top with Zen 3 and that they are the best at performance for the price since 5800x and 5600x beats i9 at single core performance.
Let's come back to @Obsnacks
Obsnacks gonna get a 1080p 240hz will a ryzen 5000 series upgrade would be necessary??? With already having ryzen 5 3600 and RX5700XT?? Is upgrade required?? As i recommend previously get the monitor first and see how it performs. In AAA games he won't get 240fps in gams like CS:Go and overwatch and other similar title it won't be an issue.

Well, OP isn't looking to build a new system two months ago, he's looking to build now/soon and the current prices are $430-460.

While it may be tempting to bet on prices going down once the 5000-series become available, my bet is that AMD has been scaling back production of Zen 2 for a while already in favor of reallocating wafers to Zen 3, RX6000 and its other new 7nm stuff. Excess Zen 2 parts got dumped in that price dip a few months ago and the remaining stock will likely vanish without seeing another round of significant price sag.

How does that change the fact that OP asked about upgrading to 3700X-3900X, that the 5000-series makes more sense if OP is primarily concerned with gaming, that the 3000-series has mostly bounced back to its MSRPs since its summer lows, and that if he's considering the 3900X at current prices, the 5800X would likely make more sense for about the same money, especially if he's aiming for 240Hz across a diverse selection of games.

According to me 3900x makes more sense with the setup OB already has the system can play games at 1440p and yes going to 5800x will definitely bump up performance but the 3900x also has 32mb more L3 cache and has 4 more physical cores for the same price.ik that the Zen 3 architecture has l3 cache unified with its 8c which will boost the performance but i can't ignore 3900x. Even im excited for 5000 series and expect it to bring good performance as its claim and as tomorrow the benchmark and reviews come lets see if that changes my mind. Also lets remeber OB has x470 chipset Mobo and MSI has said that the bios update to support 5000 series will roll out in Jan 2021 like other brands and if the price comes down within few days Yes I'll also recommend 5800x, but as if now i like the value 3900x gives.

If a 3900x is in budget range then I have to agree to wait for Zen 2 CPU's to hit market in a day or two.

For just gaming, a 5600X will almost doubtless be the gaming leader based on the limitless leaks. That simply because it will dominate over anything currently available and do it from the "value" position in the stack. If you need cores/threads for whatever reason then it's likely a 5800X will perform at least as well as a 12 core 3900X in heavy threaded work...and yet still be a great gaming processor.

Reviews will make things clearer.

Did you invert 3900X and 5800X here? The 3900X should have the upper hand in heavily threaded workloads unless the workload runs into performance scaling issues from traffic between CCXes or core/thread count while the the 5800X should be the definitive gaming champ between the two since Zen 2 lacks the single-threaded throughput necessary to drive the highest frame rates possible no matter how many extra cores it may have.

Also, pretty sure you meant "wait for Zen 3" since Zen 2 has been out for over a year already :)

I did indeed mean Zen 3 :)

And THAT's the compelling part. All these BM leaks...mostly of 5600X's but strongly hinting just what Zen3 is capable of. I'm looking for a 5800X to perform as well...maybe even better...than a 3900X in workloads where the 12 cores would be expected to dominate over a mere 8 core. And it will clearly be the superior gamer due to the single thread improvements.

Really be interesting when the reviews hit. Really interesting.

Ryzen 5000 is amazing like i knew it would be good but that's some performance right there and yes it dwarfs the 3000 series however here in India 5600X is price at the same price of ryzen 3 3700x in one website($384)😬

While it sucks that the 5000-series are ludicrously expensive to get into, the fact remains that given the same price, it makes the most sense to get the 5600X if it performs better on average than the 3700X in the stuff you do the most of.

You can always wait and hope prices come down over the next couple of months. With some luck, the rumored $220 5600non-X will materialize sooner than later.

The prices will definitely go down as the website that is selling for that price are stating that the product will ship at 17th November so that should bring it hopefully under $300 and like always the non-X always brings value
