So! Now that some details about the Ryzen 5000s series have been released, does anyone feel like taking a guess as to how the 5800X would compare against the 3700X in terms of performance?

Right now, I'm seeing the 3700X on sale at a few places and it's current price is in that sweet spot that's makes the weight of my wallet in my pocket feel like I'm dragging a boulder around. The announced price point for the 5800X, however, is just slightly above "oof!" for me. I could afford a 5800X if I saved up for a few more months (probably into December, if not early 2021) but possible issues of availability and early adopter troubles also has me thinking maybe the wait isn't worth the trouble.

Solution
If you have the patience to wait for AGESA, stable BIOS, and inventory stock.. Then just wait. If not, be like me, I got a 3950X at the end of August knowing about Zen 3. I said F it. And now I'm lowkey malding.

* I bought it(3950X) because I know people will grab the Crosshair VIII and arctic freezer ii, which are all btw, really low in stock.

What's AGESA?

Is buying a new cpu a pain? I am thinking of getting a prebuilt and would I have to do things to after since its new like updating or whatever?
Typically the only thing you'd have to do is update the UEFI firmware. However, you may not be able to do so with a prebuilt. Especially with a major vendor like Dell or HP, due to them usually not bothering with updating the UEFI all that much.

How would I know when to update the firmware and is it impossible for a noob like me at home?

I am going to buy from pcspecialist, a UK company similar to cyberpower...
ASSUMING your pre-built is assembled from components commonly sold in the DIY markets, watch the motherboard mfr's support web site and pick it up there. If the UK system integrator you're using provides good after-sale support they'll probably make it available too; or at least a link to the mobo mfr's support site. Updating is fairly easy for moderately competent technophiles, even if noobish. Instructions should be in your manual.

Here are some cpu z comparizons 3700X vs 5800X with stock settings.

Single:
3700X: 511
5800X: 650

Difference: 27%

Multi:
3700X: 5465
5800X: 6593

Difference: 20.6%

Boost Behaviour at full load all core:

3700X :
~4.11 - 4.17 Ghz on all cores @stock

5800X:
~4.40 - 4.47 Ghz on all core @stock

Boost Behaviour at full load 1 core:

3700X :
~4.20 - 4.32 Ghz 1 Core @stock

5800X:
~4.56 - 4.73 Ghz on 1 Core @stock

Hope this helps..

What's your source for this?

EDIT add:

I DID find this link:
https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-R...r-than-the-Intel-Core-i9-10900K.499440.0.html
with CPUz numbers for 5800x.

Purportedly, the source is one Apisak on Twitter. If true he (she?) is a rather famous (infamous?) leaker of AMD data who's been pretty reliable in the past.

Do consider 3900X will be in same price range as 5800X when released, its slower in single thread but way faster in multithread loads:
Single: 569
Multi: 9009

Source: https://valid.x86.fr/bench/9ly8hi

Just so you know i own a 3700X hooked with a custom loop. With best stable O.C it can do
532 / 5825 max on cpu z which is not much gain, roughly 5-6%.

See at this time choices for you are many.

I suggest, 5800X is overpriced in terms of multithread work load. 3000 series is relavant because of price to perf.value they give.

If you just game rather pick 5600X and save money for a fat gpu.
If you are buying for both work and play go with 3900X get more multi core performance for same price of 5800X .
Or Wait more to see non x cpus on horizon like 5600, 5700, 5900 etc completely flushing out 3000 sereis out of the market.

Take your pick wisely.
