I recently got a Ryzen 7 3800X and it doesn't work with my Asus Prime B350M-A. I updated my BIOS and checked their website to see if it was compatible and it says it is. A little help please? Thanks!

ASUS strongly recommends that you update AMD chipset driver 18.50.16 or later before updating BIOS.

Asus recommends updating BIOS methods depending on what BIOS version you started with.

Version 0805 2017/06/265.93 MBytes
PRIME B350M-A BIOS 0805
Update AGESA to 1.0.0.6a
Note: Updating BIOS method suggested
1.ASUS EZ Flash3: Update the BIOS by USB or Internet.
2.ASUS EZ Update: Update the BIOS in Windows environment, please download the ASUS EZ Update -V2.03.16 via the following link http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb...2.1028612146.1495609681-1198895981.1478769839

Version 0612 2017/05/245.84 MBytes
PRIME B350M-A BIOS 0612
Improve system stability

I don't remember the version I started with but I updated to BIOS version 5220. I didn't update my AMD Chipset Drivers so should I try that now? Will it be fine if my BIOS were updated before the chipset driver?

I'd reflash the bios one more time while you have the 1700x installed. Re-install the 3800x, clear the CMOS, and try to post again. Give it time. The 3000 CPU's will take an uncomfortably long time to post. Especially the first time. If it still fails to post shut it down, turn off the PSU, unplug everything (wall power and peripherals), and hold down the power button for 30 sec. Install only a single RAM stick, clear CMOS again, plug everything in, and try it again. I noticed the older boards can refuse to post with certain memory and 3000 CPU's. Even when they work fine with a 1st or 2nd gen on the same board. Again give it time. It will usually post cycle a few times and then run fans full blast when it can't post because of memory. Good luck.

No but I looked it up and it doesn’t really make sense can you explain it a bit
There is a set of jumpers on your motherboard similar to the ones you plug your front I/O into for power and reset. When you short these 2 jumpers (touch both pins with the tip of a screwdriver) it will reset all of the bios settings to default. If you can't find the jumpers by reading the tiny print on the motherboard you can refer to your motherboard manual to locate the jumpers. Make sure you have everything powered down and the wall power and peripherals are unplugged. It's also a good idea to hold down the power button for 30 seconds after powering down and unplugging so any capacitors still holding a charge will drain before poking around in your system.

Well it was worth a shot. Sorry we couldn't get it going. Upgrading that motherboard is a good move regardless. You might consider upgrading some of the other components as well. Any single major component in a config can greatly affect performance and/or reliability. If you list your whole system specs along with your intended uses you'll likely get some solid recommendations on how you might improve your system in general. You've definitely got a nice CPU to build around. Welcome to the forum.
