Wow, kind of expected Renoir to compete alright with Skylake parts, but not really with Ice Lake i7s. When they come out with the 65W desktop-ified version (mid-'20?) just hope there's supply and the price isn't nuts! 😛

The only thing it will have in common with the PS5 is Zen2. But it's not even the first Zen2-based processor on the market, so I don't get your point.

The PS5 obviously will not be constrained to 15 Watts, so base/boost clocks will be different, and I expect the PS5 to enable SMT.

The iGPU will not simply be modified, it'll be a completely different animal. This still uses Vega, but the PS5 is going to be Navi-based, and that thing will be huge - probably be on par with a RX 5700.

Finally the memory will be completely different - GDDR6. This will impact not only GPU performance, but also probably hamper the CPU, to some extent (due to higher latency).

So, at least you got the Zen2 part right, and I think we know the PS5 will technically have an APU.

Yeah, they dropped the base clocks from the Ryzen 7 3700U's 2.3 GHz. So, even the smaller process node and killing SMT wasn't enough to get to 8 cores - they also had to sacrifice about 14% of base clocks.

I guess that they're similar? Both 8-core Zen2, but 3700X has a max boost of 4.4 GHz - not 4.2 - and features SMT. Not to mention the base clocks...

It's a little more relevant than the PS5 comment, but still kinda 😕
