hello everyone,

i want to upgrade from ryzen 7 2700 as i just bought an rtx 3070

im mainly playing warzone and thinking between these two cpus. i can get 5600x for about 260eur (with the stock cooler), while 7 5800x is 340eur plus about 50-60 for cooling.

im wondering if 150eur difference is worth it? im mainly playing warzone

have corsair hx850i and 2x8gb @ 3200mhz

144hz monitor, so ideally would like to get 120+ fps in warzone in 1080p

Zen 3 and Zen+ is alot of generational and architechture differences, you get better unified cpu architechture, faster infinity fabric speed, better clock.
I would say that yes, it could worth the differences because that game utilize most of cores and thread better.

My way of changing the cpu to the latest (to avoid any performance issues):
  • Disconnect from internet
  • Uninstall gpu driver DDU (clean and do not restart).
  • Uninstall all the processors on device manager (should be 16 on yours, also when it asks for restart, click on no) like this:
  • Restart the pc to bios, and update to the latest bios, then go to bios again after update, and power off pc (just dont go to windows after update, power off the pc). Replace the cpu, power on the pc, and go to bios again and load default or optimized settings.

  • boot up to windows and install the latest AMD Chipset driver, reboot, and connect to internet.

  • Install the latest nvidia driver.

*do this all offline until reboot after installing chipset driver, also you may reboot to bios after all of this to set the XMP (and previous settings you did) and make sure ram is on slot 2 and 4 if you use 2 sticks. Download needed files (highlighted word) before doing step 1, do the step by orders.

  • And check windows update (and optional updates) if there is any and install them (except chipset in optional update). Also enable Hardware Accelerated Graphics Scheduling (available on the latest win 10 update) in graphics settings like this and reboot:
Make sure the psu connected to the gpu is 1 pcie cable per 1 slot (use main cable, not the branches/split) like this:

If you just using it for gaming extra two cores aren't worth it.
Stock 5800x should clock 200mhz higher compared to 5600x but on average they overclock almost exactly the same.
Since you have pretty high end GPU you're not gonna be GPU bottlenecked so Faster Ram will actually give you a noticeable improvement which might better Fps improvement compared to what you would get form CPU clock speed difference. What Ram do you have? 3800mhz cl16 should be 5 to 7% faster compared to 3200mhz cl16.
What motherboard do you have? 5th gen CPUs aren't supported by older than 400x chipsets.

Warzone can only use 12 threads so unless multitasking at the same time the only benefit of the 5800x is the small boost which really isn’t going to be noticeable.

The recent information about BF2042 indicates it might be able to use more than 12 threads and given the pc version is allowing up to 128 players in a game it is not overly surprising. 12 threads has been a general sweet spot that nearly all recent AAA games have not gone over but are we going to start seeing a benefit from >12 threads in the near future, we will need to wait and see.

FYI...not clear in previous posts, but there is no 5700X CPU...only 5700G and 5800X for 8 core/16 thread Zen 3 parts. I've only seen rumors of one possible in early 2021...has that changed?

The 5700G's not at all like the 5800X, and doesn't fit in the stack in the same way the 3700X did with the 3800X, as it lacks the cache that lets Zen2 scream. But being a 'G' processor it's an APU and has a very good iGPU if you needed one and can't afford the outrageous prices being demanded even for low-end dGPU's.
