Ryzen 7 2700x
ASUS B350-F Gaming
Nvidia RTX 3070 Founders Edition
Corsair LPX Vengeance 32GB (2x16)
Corsair 750w PSU
1TB M.2 NVME
1TB HDD
4TB External HDD

Looking at getting an open box Ryzen 7 3700x for $265. Is this a worthwhile upgrade? I am a pc gamer looking to maximize performance from my newly acquired RTX 3070 FE.

Solution
Is nearly $300 worth a ~10% increase in "speed" to you?

I have a 2700x that I got on a great deal to "upgrade" a 1700. If it hadn't been for the deal it probably wasn't worth it, overall.
The issue with folks still on the 3xx chipset is that the 5xxx Ryzen won't have BIOS available for it to work. I wouldn't (and haven't) specifically upgrade from 2 to 3xxx. 5000 would be the way to go but then the budget becomes mobo, RAM, and possible OS to go along with.

I was going to mention Microcenter, as that is where I also shopped AMD/'zen. I was expecting to see pricing drop, but with recent demand they actually all went up ~$30+. IF I were going to upgrade to 3 from 2 it would have to be a very similar situation.

I'd say 'yes' it's a worthwhile upgrade....except for gaming. Especially if gaming at 1440p and higher resolutions.

You might save some money and get a $199 3600X as 6 core/12 threads is still the sweet spot for gaming.

So for what I'm doing right now, I should just sit with what I have. I would expect to see the 3700x or 3800x on a Black Friday sale at Microcenter next year, especially with all the new 5000 series cpu's coming out. Picked up the 2700x for $135 at MicroCenter at a Black Friday sale.

See above...but yeah, LOVE Microcenter.
I picked up a R3 1200 on release, just to see what was up. I waited out the market and picked up a 1700 for $99. I further waited and picked up my 2700X for around that same price. I was actually there for a $90 1700X and saw the 2700 deal. I was SO SO hoping that the same thing would happen with 3000 but it hasn't yet.
The biggest single advantage I can foresee is a significant temperature drop.

Yeah when you say it like that, dropping $300 for a small increase performance does seem like a bad choice. The GPU upgrade makes all my games ultra at 1440p on ultra with no effort. Only Cyberpunk dips at around 70fps, everything else is 100+ fps.

I have been thinking about picking up Cyberpunk. Hoping they decide to drop the price to more in line with the console game....just the same with the unavailability of good GPU at MSRP I am not sure I want to highlight the shortcomings of my aging GTX1080 that way, lol.
