i just recently put together my ryzen system with some new and old parts and have been having issues getting it to consistently boot into windows.
Sometimes it will boot into windows, sometimes it wont but i can always get it to post and get into the bios. when i wont boot into windows i either get hung up on the windows logo with no prompts or it will say preparing automatic repair.

hardware
asus x370 prime
ryzen 1700
16gb trident z rgb 3200 (running at 2133 right now)
asus strix 1070 (doubt this matters but...)
samsung evo 840 ssd 120 gb with windows
an old 1 tb hitachi hdd
and a new WD black 1 tb

so for more clarification i was using a usb drive to load windows to the clean WD hdd and was having issues with it seemingly getting stuck trying to install in my frustration i eventually ended up taking my samsung SSD from my old system with windows already installed on it to try to get it to boot.(the ssd had an oem version of windows 10 from a windows 7 upgrade in case that matters) eventually i got a repair screen but it didnt load the repair it just froze seemingly. so i called my friend to help me calm down and troubleshoot properly and after disconnecting my dvd drive and or mouse (i forget which got it to work) it loaded the windows install to the WD hdd like i wanted it to.
heres another spot i might have caused an issue at, when i got it to boot into windows i turned it off to see if i could format the SSD so i could make that my new boot drive. out of about 25ish reboots ive gotten it to boot windows maybe 3 times this being the third time. all the other times it would attempt to repair and freeze up. so after disconnecting all the drives i got it to boot. so i came here to the forums for advice on what the problem might be while its still working and i can check for updates on the thread from my phone if im not home or if it wont boot again.

I am going to attempt to continue troubleshooting while i wait for replies.

I forgot to mention the ssd is from an old intel system that i had and i didnt format it.

always use a formated and new installed O.S to your system so you can install drivers properly.

update your bios to be sure it's not from bios.

check your core voltage and temps on bios to see if its high . (if it is then disable cpu core boost then see what will happen).

share the results with us

Thank you for the help. The new hard drive ended up with 4 partitions which I formatted then deleted and then reinstalled windows on I'm updating it now then we will see if it boots consistently.
