It is still a little difficult to say because we won't see full, independent third-party reviews until the end of next week.

On price though, the 6c/12t CPUs (or 4c/8t CPUs depending on where you live) are going against the 4c/4t Intel CPUs......

On synthetic benchmarks, and especially for single-core performance, the unlocked 1151's are still expected to be faster than AMDs offering, but because AMD will be so close behind now (a HUGE change from the past), that little bit of difference is not expected to make a significant difference in gaming performance. We'll know for sure next week though.

Just like the other 100 threads asking about Ryzen:

The chips have not been released yet, no one has had the chance yet to benchmark them (only the retail chips matter, pre-preduction demo ones dont count).
Thus at this time we can not tell you if Ryzen X is better then Intel Y or which Ryzen = Intel Z; anyone saying X is better then Y at this point is at best speculating bassed off of the spec sheets or just completley talking out of there butt.

AMD will be releasing 6 and 4 core (Ryzen 5 and 3, respectively) CPUs later on, those would be the i5 competitors. The 8 core Ryzen (Ryzen 7) CPUs being released soon are competing more with Intel's "Extreme" CPUs, and mainstream i7 to a lesser extent.
