I finally was able to save up some money and buy a r5 3600 and a b450 tomahawk max. I built the pc and after intalling all the drivers i ran prime95 and after a minute cpu temp reached 90c. I freaked out and reseated the cooler. Tested again... and its the same. I disabled a setting in bios and tested prime95 again and it was 68c but cpu speed was running at base clock. Re enabled that setting and disabled Precision Boost overdrive and now my cpu goes up to 68c after 10mins of prime95 but now it boosts to 4.1-4.2. What does PBO do? Why does it have a big impact on temps?

In simple terms, PBO boost one or more cores to higher frequency by allowing more power usage and higher voltages when CPU is used at maximum. That's why it...

In simple terms, PBO boost one or more cores to higher frequency by allowing more power usage and higher voltages when CPU is used at maximum. That's why it causes higher temperatures. Should be used only with very good cooling.
