I want to buy a laptop, my target can be gaming (overwatch) on the second monitor with the highest FPS possible. Here I want to ask whether:

1. Is the igpu from Ryzen 4700u / 4800u paired with 16GB RAM has better performance (fps) than i5-1035G1 + MX350, considering MX350 VRAM is only 2GB and Ryzen multicore performance still better?

2. Is it true that ryzen VRAM uses shared RAM from the processor too? does this what makes Ryzen need better RAM?

3. Does 15" FHD laptop monitor use the same VRAM capacity as the 24" FHD external monitor (same resolution, but different monitor sizes)? What possible problem can be caused by lacking of VRAM?

Maybe the real laptop scenario is like the Ideapad Slim 7, but in the future my target is Ideapad 5 (15), which has the same specifications choice. Thanks in advance

1| It'd help us all two fold if you parsed the links to the laptops you're looking at. Often times you have slim line laptops that overheat which defeat the purpose of actually buying into hot headed hardware.

2| Yes but there's a limit to how much ram is used/shared/assigned.

3| Not entirely the same. There used to be a time when 15" laptops only had 720p displays while 25" displays for the desktop were a max of 1080 or 1200(vertical resolution. Now you have higher res's for both platforms. Right, we also need the make and model of the external monitor as well.

1. 2 laptops that on my radar is lenovo yoga slim 7 and ideapad 5 (15)

https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-500-series/IdeaPad-5-15IIL05/p/88IPS501391

https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/yoga/yoga-s-series/Yoga-Slim-7-14ARE05/p/88YGS701397

Both of them has same configuration choice of Ryzen 4700u/4800u + 16gb ram or intel i5-1035G1 + MX350 + 4gb ram on my country, my main focus is to get best FPS possible

3.What I mean is 1080p on 24” and 15” will use same VRAM amount, not the percieved resolution because of smaller screen demand less better resolution, from your answer it seems as long both “1920×1080” will use same amount of VRAM

Thanx for the response, appreciate it

The 4700u igp is in essence as powerful or more so than the mx350.

The issue here is a lot of laptops have a 15w limit to increase battery life.

That cripples the amd igp performance wise.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/R7-4700U-vs-R7-4800H_11683_11677.247596.0.html

Look at the 3dmark performance on the 4700u vs the 4700h (they are quite literally the same chip but the h has an increased 45w limit)

Its around 50% stronger because of that.

The 4700u will still perform well just not as well as it could.
