Games depend on a few fast threads.
Few games can utilize more than 2-3.

Remember, the ryzen 1800x is a $500 cpu.
Even the cheapest 1700 is $325.

You are better off for gaming with a i7-7700K at $325.

Actually, I think the i5-7600K with an overclock for $225 is the smart gaming buy if you have any sort of a budget.

If gaming is the primary purpose go with the 7700k. It's cheaper and performs better in most games as it still holds the best single threaded performance . Now if you were doing alot of heavily multi-threaded tasks and just playing the occasional game then Ryzen would be the way to go.

The 1700/1700x will probably be better for you. You can oc them to roughly the same speed as an 1800x save a good bit of money, and it'll game pretty solidly (admittedly a bit behind a 7700k) but in tougher to run games while streaming those extra cores come in handy, and make a giant difference on the editing side.

I think the 1700X or 1800X will serve you better. When you're just gaming, the 7700K will be faster, but when you game while streaming, the extra cores from AMD will serve you well. In editing, AMD will perform way above the 7700K.
