I cant really decide in terms of getting a CPU for my gtx 970
The budget for a CPU is around 300$ for me.
Pros-Cons? Ryzen or Intel I5 7xxx K series? Absolutely no idea. Only for gaming btw.
Thanks in advance

Do you want to cancel the 'best solution' to reactivate the thread? That way more people are likely to get involved and give a wider choice of options and opinions.

Pretty much agree with Madmatt30, although the FPS disparity can be much greater at 1080 rez, but you'll need a 144Hz (or faster) monitor to actually get that difference and, as he says, the GTX970 would hold up either CPU in question with such a display anyway.

Me, I'd also go Ryzen unless you can spring for an i7.
If this is strictly for gaming, go with a i7-7600K with a B250, no need to OC...again this is strictly for gaming and not anything else. It will give you the most optimal performance.

If you want to stream AND game, I would go with Ryzen 5 1600 (maybe the 7 1700 would be better). It will also benefit in faster render times. The i5 can render as well, but not as fast due to lack of cores.

There is no such thing as an i7 7600k 😀

Also if its a K version, why should i not overclock it?? When its meant for that?

If you want to overclock, that is up to you, but I highly doubt you will need a increase. Plus overclock takes time and patience because it is trial and error. If you want that, then get a Z270 board, if not, stick with the B250, pop in the CPU and game.

Intel still has the highest IPS, and the chips are still stable in the LGA1151 platform (LGA2066 seems to be a thermal exercise to get it to consistently perform)

Ryzen will offer more cores, and with FAST RAM (3000 or 3200) will negate a good portion of performance difference where multi-core CPUs really work. It's very important to ensure you have the latest BIOS installed for best performance.

As to which one? Price/Performance ratio belongs to Ryzen.Pure IPS performance belongs to Intel...If FPS is your bottom line, Intel wins.

What display are you using? Do you intend to upgrade in the foreseeable future?
Why do I ask?
Because Intel only has a sizable advantage in gaming at 1080 rez, move up to 2K and that advantage largely disappears and at 4K the whole system is going to be almost copmpleately GPU restricted anyway, regardless of CPU.

At this point in time I see no worth whatsoever in any straight quad i5 , they're as dead as the proverbial dodo now imo.

Ryzen 1600 or i7 7700 (non k)

They're your 2 sensible choices for a future proof gaming CPU now.
I'd go ryzen personally (well I have) because in the long term IMO there is much more performance overhead there.

When your talking 105fps on the ryzen compared to 115 fps on the intel for me personally the IPC difference is negligible.

A 970 will be the limit with both those chips anyway.
