[SOLVED] Ryzen Powered 1080p Gaming Build | 750$ Budget

[ShortTerm]

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x | Ryzen 7 2700

Mobo: AsRock B450m Steel Legend | ASUS ROG STRIX B450F Gaming

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory (I believe this is B-die, and is 3600Mhz, seems a good value but please weigh in.)

GPU: Some Variation of an RX580 8GB Card like XFX Radeon RX 580 8 GB GTS XXX ED Video Card

PSU: The case I chose doesn't use a PSU shroud, so i'm looking to use an RGB PSU like Raidmax Thunder RGB, a semi or fully modular design would also be great. Even something that's non-modular, but has decent cables and appearance would be acceptable such as SeaSonic S12III.


I've already picked out and ordered the tower;
Fractal Design Focus G ATX Mid Tower Case

How would you pair things for this combination, and is 'style' sacrificing too much performance for the buck? Or am I getting a good value for aesthetics vs performance?

If you can manage it in your budget I would suggest a Ryzen 3600 over the 2* series if gaming is your priority. If you choose this route I would buy one of these mobos as there are still B450 motherboards being sold without updated BIOSs that will support 3* series Ryzens. Otherwise you will need to borrow, take to a PC shop, or send away for one AMDs free upgrade kits https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100 in order to update the BIOS.

Skip the RX 580, it's a dated card and there are better options such as the GTX 1650 Super which is slightly better in most games or a GTX 1660 Super.

Don't buy gimmicky PSUs, especially that PSU as it has terrible reviews and construction. The Seasonic is decent but it's getting dated in design. You can use https://www.gamingscan.com/psu-hierarchy/ or https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40/ for guides on PSU quality.

I feel you on the gimmicky nature of some of these components, totally feel like i've been entranced by the RGB. Glad I have comments like these too remind me of something I tend to ignore.

Does the higher L3 Cache & Lower TDP make the pricing difference between the 2600x & 3600 worth it? 2600x includes a Wraith Spire @$145 \ The 3600 is the same base clock, boost clock, But has double the cache @ L3.

I wont be using the Wraith Spire on this build, putting a cooler master in it for RGB, but I do have another PC with ryzen 5 2400G using it's iGPU which could use the better CPU fan so that option has been considered for that reason mostly.

Were 1650 options I've looked at, each fits pretty well aesthetically.

Appreciate the PSU hierarchy guides, I had no idea how to gauge value when it came to them other than Rating and Wattage.

I do have a ryzen 5 2400g CPU available I could use if a bios update is required, if that would be able to update of course?

The 3600 is stronger single c/t then the 2600 by enough of a margin to make it worth it IMO for gaming. Its not like your system will be terrible with a 2600/2700 so don't fret over it. If you plan to stream and game or do heavy multi core/thread tasks like editing then a 2700 would probably be a better option>

If you decide on the 2700 (which is on sale at newegg for 150USD) it comes with the AMD Wraith Spire RGB

The 1650s you've looked at are all normal 1650, not the newer more powerful GTX 1650 Supers which are on par with and slightly faster then the RX580. The normal 1650s are not.

And yes if you have a 2400G you can use that to update your BIOS to the latest one if you want to get the 3600.
