[SOLVED] Ryzen Threadripper 2950X buyer's remorse?

This is more of a rhetorical question, but do you think the buyers for the 2950X now have buyer's remorse with the coming release of the Ryzen 9 3950X? The 2950X currently sells for $680 on Amazon, whereas the 3950X's anticipated MSRP is $750; only an $80 premium.

Certainly can't be as bad as the remorse recent 9980X buyers will feel (having spent $1799 or so) when the 10th gen replacement with quite similar specs slides in at $899 or so... (Quite similar to the 6950X buyers at $1700 probably frowning over the faster 7900X being only $999)

Obakasama Good point. I have a personal reason for posting my question. With the coming release of 3rd gen Threadripper, I could see myself buying the 24 or 32 core variant, only to have it antiquated by Zen 3 in approximately eight months. It's a fascinating "problem", if one can call it that.

I think there's always an element of that possibility as there's always something better on the horizon. Certainly been enough threads asking whether to wait for the next gen CPU/GPU.

What makes the Zen 2 CPUs like Threadripper and Ryzen 3000 series more exciting is the actual architectural changes. And we can certainly see the benefits of going from Zen + to Zen 2 from the benchmarks. Whereas Intel's consumer CPUs haven't really seen much innovation since Sandy Bridge. This will change when Intel finally have a new architecture like AMD has in recent years. Not sure how far the scheduling issues have been resolved with Threadripper, with respect to Windows anyway, but definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Then there are the cases where you have no choice to upgrade because of failing parts but can't wait until the next new release.

mdd1963 Want to know the real mind bender? The Intel 10C / 20T Core i7-6950X sold in 2016 for $1,723. Next month AMD will release the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3980X/WX 48C / 96T for approximately $1,800. "Tech" from Tech Deals (YouTube channel) made that point in yesterday's stream, and it's a fascinating one.
