Hello,
I have a 2017 Dell Inspiron 27" 7775 AIO with an AMD promontory 2 B350 motherboard and Ryzen 7 1700 CPU. I would like to upgrade to Windows 11 but Ryzen 7 1700 CPU is not supported (what?!). I have tried and figure out what CPU I could upgrade to without having to upgrade the mobo and I think the Ryzen 7 5700X, would work, although I'm not 100% sure. It also draws 65 watts like the 1700 and is AM4. It is not listed on Windows 11 supported CPUs however, but I suspect it would support it. Any help would be appreciated!!!

OEM motherboards aren't the same as retail ones. B350 should not support the 5000 series CPUs, that would take B450 at least. X370 chipset does on some motherboards, but that is up to the manufacturer to release BIOS updates. Dell doesn't usually, so I would just sell the system for what you can get and replace it.

Tough question but do y'all think the OEM Dell B350 would support the Ryzen 2000 series? Windows 11 supports the Ryzen 7 2700 but not my Ryzen 7 1700. I'd just hate to throw out my perfectly usable machine in 2025 (yes I know I can still use it after 2025 but I don't want to be vulnerable to Putin's cyberwarfare attacks which require updates).

Unless you can find an example of someone who has already managed to do it, I would not invest the money and effort.

Dell has a giant flag on their support page that Windows 11 is not supported on this device.

None of the BIOSes listed for the system mention adding CPU support. Only one reference to Summit (Summit Ridge) the codename for Ryzen 1000 series processors.

The latest BIOS is from 2022, might be worth installing for security purposes, but otherwise, I would say keep using Windows 10 until 2025.

You, me and everyone else who is running either Ryzen 1000 series CPU, or Intel 7th gen or older. (I have two perfectly fine builds, one with Intel 6th gen, another with Intel 4th gen.)

To me, it is such a BS, that W11 doesn't support more than enough capable CPUs. E.g W11 supports Celeron G4900 but not i5-6600K, where Core i5 is miles better than Celeron,

Thank you so much Eximo and Aeacus. I think the next machine I get will have a Pluton chip because from what I have been reading W12 will probably require it.

It's a long time before 2025 sit tight msft may change their mind many times before the end date.

If your only reason for upgrade is W11, don't do it, stay on W10 a it will be supported until 2025. There's nothing in W11 that can make 1st and 2nd gen Ryzen work better, only starting with3000 and 5000.
There are ways to skip and bypass W11 requirements, MS tolerates it for now, unknown for how long.
Rufus for instance https://rufus.ie/en/ can make a bootable disk/USB which skips requirements.
