My hard drive's health status is "Caution," and says this is because I have 13 reallocated sectors. Also, I hear a high-pitched whining sound randomly on and off, and I won't be able to afford an SSD until this August or maybe even as late as December. I'm no drive expert by any means, but this seems bad. Is my drive okay for the rest of this year at least?

Solution
I should add this as well

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_sector

''If any of the files uses a sector which is marked as 'bad' by a disk utility then the bad sector of the file is remapped to a free sector and any unreadable data is lost. ''

so that's 13 chances you took on lost, damaged or corrupted data

now also a brand new drive can show this as well then that's a non issue cause they will be ignored right off the bat aand as long as that count never changes higher

thing is are you noticing any system stability issues ?

thing is that noise you report wth it a harddrive should be near 100% quite and vibration free at the most a super slight just noticeable spin up whirl at heavy use times

any more checks down the road and you see that change /increase then yes

then if your sure the harddrive is whats doing this

'' I hear a high-pitched whining sound randomly on and off'

you need to back all your stuff up and replace the drive [opinion] its a failing drive may last years then may last in till the nextime you fire up ???

you don't need to wait for a SSD just get another platter I still don't use SSD's in any of my rigs -

out side of that its like there's not even a drive installed at all

Oops, sorry for not answering for a while. I got a new SSD, but whoever comes across this online, as junkeymonkey said, it should be fine unless there are stability issues. That drive was really loud and really old to be having all of my stuff on it with no backup, so I bit the bullet and used what I had saved up for a car with ($120) and bought a Samsung SSD 850 EVO.
