I just started receiving this message stating IDE Channel 5 Master HD Smart status bad. I have 4 HDD's, my main one with the OS is a Samsung SSD 840EVO. How do i know which drive is going bad??? TIA!

Solution
Download and run "HDTune" and/or "CrystalDiskInfo" - It will tell you clearly which HDD is bad. Look for "re-allocated sectors count - raw value" - If this number is greater than 1, replace the HDD.

Unplug them all, except the OS drive.
Reconnect one by one to diagnose.

Downloaded Crystaldisk and all drives say Good except for my D: Drive (thank god its not my OS drive) but status shows Unknown and shows no details?? Im assuming this drive is the culprit? One of my other drives shows status of good but 50' C for temp. Im assuming thats too hot..

Look are the re-allocated sectors count raw value. If over 1 replace the drive. 50 degs. C is on the high side but still OK.

Also, run HDTune.

It only shows the re-allocated sectors count for the other 3, just the one 500GB drive is showing Unknown, and not providing any details whatsoever. Since I have unplugged it the PC is acting normal, so i think ive narrowed it down to this Seagate drive. Thanks again!

Please replace the drive before you lose data! Replace with WD Black or Blue. I just replaced a Seagate with a WD Blue from Microcenter for $43 (in-store and one per household). The sale is still on.

I don't think i have any Microcenters around me, definitely going WD as that is what my other drives are. I'm backed up already. Was thinking of buying off Newegg as I've had good luck with them in the past. thanks!
