My poor pet got killed below minetown, I go on carrying stuff to the shops
in order to buy protection. A bunch of elves attacked me. I was dropped to
2 HP, so I decided to pray.

You begin praying to Frost.
The Green-elf swing her runed broadsword.
The Green-elf hits!
[8 pts.]
DYWYPI ?

I thought that no one could attack while praying, what happened ?

Yep, a pissed god is what'll do it. Either you prayed too soon, or you
did something against alignment too often, or your luck was negative -
that's what usually spells "No prayer for you!"

Hum, apparently, my final attribute says that Frost was angry with me, so
I guess that's why I was not protected. What could have cause that ?
Praying too soon ? Wouldn't I get a message that Frost is bothered with me
before ?
[I don't think I went angry because of my pet's death, it died in regular
combat against a kobold]

I have never seen any warning messages when my god was angry with me before
prayers. Only afterwards do I get the messages "You feel that foo is
displeased" (or something like that).

Has you prayed before? 9 times out of 10 that is why my god gets angry
with me.

BTW I hate elves. That is until I can kill them for sure...then they are
delicious.

Elves and insects (ants and bees)...that is what has killed most of my
characters that made it to Minetown in Slash'Em.

No, you get the message _after_ the prayer is finished.
Killed any peacefuls recently?

Yes. But I though it was long enough ago (I had time to become hungry and
eat a food ration at least two time, plus eating a few corpses from time
to time). Maybe I just had a big prayer timeout.

Same thing happened to me on my last death, in my case I'm pretty sure
it was from having negative luck.
