OK, I've got a little Human Tourist going, 0.0.7E7, no real armor or
weapons to speak of, though he's got a bag of holding, in the non-Mines
market with two kitties. Plenty of cash on hand, so he bought a blessed
magic lamp. Assuming he gets a wish, what should he ask for? I'm tempted
to wait until he clears Sokoban to decide, but dying holding a magic
lamp is just too bogus. I'm thinking either grey or silver dragon scale
mail. Any advice or personal preferences?

Thanks.

PS: slipped-in mini-question: didn't unilluminated hallways, soldier
ants, etc., used to be blue? They're grey and it's throwing me off over
here. Lest I seem demanding, THANK YOU for the free game, I'm only
asking 🙂

+2 blessed gray dragon scale mail, hands down - assuming, of course, you
don't already have a cloak of magic protection. If so, then silver
dragon scale mail. Not only does GDSM lower AC like a champ, but it will
protect against a number of traps like teleport and polymorph traps.

yeah- but i think the math works out to where +3 is the best
enchantment to ask for (unless its changed recently.. by which i mean
a year or so)

It depends on what you're aiming for. If you're aiming for maximum
enchantment, it's wise to ask for +3 enchantment; in the long run,
you'll get the highest average.

If you want to get the wished-for enchantment with more certainty, and
decrease the chance for getting +0, it is better to wish for +2. Less
enchantment in the long run, but a better chance of getting an
enchantment *at all*.

Keep the lamp until you complete sokoban. If your sokoban has
the amulet of reflection that's covered and your wish is for
grey. If your sokoban has the bag of holding the question is
still hard to answer.

Next level of evaluation is whether the character can twoweapon.
Tourists can. Twoweaponing beats most shield options. The
most value shield when comparing grey or silver is the silver
shield. With SDSM you never need to worry about reflection.
So if Sokoban gives a tourist a bag not an amulet, wish for
silver.

You need magic protection and a good weapon. So why not wish for
Magicbane? Because it does not boost the damage you deal too much, it
will not make you overconfident. It can help with survival by Engraving
as well.

Good armor alone will not save you, a good weapon alone will not save
you either. Magicbane is a decent compromise (if you don't mind wishing
for artifacts).

After Sokoban, if that does not yield the amulet, I would rather wish
for silver dragon scale mail. But I also think the wish should be spent
immediately, since you don't have a fighter going.
