My A8N-E (s939) failed recently, and I can't justify getting a new C2D system when I have a perfectly fine FX-55 (San Diego). As the processor was getting a little laggy for me, I intend to overclock the thing to 3.0GHz with a new motherboard.

Memory: Patriot 2-3-2-5-1t @ DDR450
Cooler: Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu (Link)

Would I be justified in getting a nice DFI board? Link
$130 seems to be a lot to pay for this older technology...

I'd prefer to purchase from 'egg, but will buy elsewhere if anyone else has any other recommendations. Thanks for your time in advance.

I'd go on ebay and pick up a used DFI Board. If they give you the receipt, the sucker will still have at least a year left on the warranty. If you need SLI, then pick an SLI board up...if not, get an Ultra DR...hell, if you already ahve the connector, get an LP Ultra NF4 and just mod the chipset...it's easy enough to do.

i personally wouldnt buy a mobo off of ebay. stick w/ the board you chose, you really cant go wrong

What difference does it make if it comes with a warranty? If the board has a problem, return it and DFI will replace it. But if he doesn't want to go the ebay route, there are plenty of h/w forums with FS/FT boards. I don't get teh point of paying more than you have to for a MB that many are dumping at bargaing basement prices.

DFI Lanparty or Abit AN8 32x. Just picked the Abit up from New Egg (Open Box for $71), love it. The DFIs will overclock a bit better, but this thing isn't far behind and everything is passively cooled.
