So I have a Sabertooth 990FX and a fx 6300 on Windows 10 64bit

I have 4x4 of G.Skill Ripsaw series which is on the QVL and for 4x4.

Issue im having is, I can't get it to run dual channel. I can't get the B slots to use the ram installed in them at all.

Any stick in either A1 or A2 works just fine. Boots up, shows 4 gigs (or 8 if using A1&A2). If installed in dual channel mode A2&B2, Bios will show 4gigs ez screen, but if you go into the NB settings, it shows both memory is installed. Windows 10 will show 8 gigs (4 usable) and CPUz will tell me 8 gigs and show the memory in both slots.

Similarly if I go 4x4 it will show 8 gigs on the bios ez screen, but show all 4 sticks installed under the NB settings. Windows will say 16 (8 usable) and CPUz will tell me 16 gigs and show the memory for all 4 slots.

The PC will not post with any ram in B1 or B2 and i dont think its supposed too. But if both slots were bad would the NB and CPUz and Windows detect them and all their functionality? I have seem many other people have this same exact problem, that seemed to be cleared through a faulty stick or just were not able to figure it out, However ive fully tested these sticks multiple times and they are all good.

Things I have tried & tested:

MSconfig/Boot option for max memory checked and unchecked.
Removed/reset Cmos
Default Bios Settings
Increased Dram and NB voltage.
Decreased to 1333
Tested each individual and paired sticks in the A slots and memory tested them. All good
Latest Bios Version 2501
Im aware one set is the GBRL and other is GBXL but its same hardware, just different headsinks runnign exact same settings and the actual model # of all of the match the QVL and ive tested the pairs in A1&A2 and no issues. Also running either set in DC mode for A2&B2 yields same issue with the same sets.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, the memory controller on the FX series CPUs has limitations. Even the old Phenom II controller was better. As a result, FX will usually have speed/timing issues when using 4 sticks. If you switch your RAM to a 2x8 kit it will be fine. I have seen this to one degree or another on every AMD 970 / 990fx board and FX CPU I've used.

* IF * You still want to try 4x4, The RAM must be identical. Also, you'll probably need to up the CPU NB voltage and RAM voltage a bit, even if you aren't overclocking. Default CPU NB is usually anywhere from 1.1875 to 1.20 but can go higher. Try to see if the RAM works better with CPU NB at 1.25 or 1.275. That's in the middle of the safe range for overclocking/overvolting.

Also. give your RAM (DRAM) a small voltage bump. 0.025 over stock should be plenty, but don't exceed 0.050 over stock. Stock voltage and timings should be clearely labeled on the RAM. Ex: If stock ram voltage is 1.50v and this will bump you to 1.525, with 1.550 max.

It may also help to give the HT and FSB some very small voltage bumps. These are less critical but do work together with the memory on pretty much everything your PC does. Bump NB/FSB from 1.10 stock up to 1.150, and bump HT up from 1.20 stock up to 1.250. That's a .050 bump for both and falls within the middle of the safe range for overclocking/overvolting.

I did try increasing the Dram voltage and NB, I went to 1.25 with no change.

Also, I get the same exact issue with 2 sticks of 2x4. If I put it into A2 &B2 (manual suggests) or even A1B1 or any combination of A&B, it will do the same exact thing. Ez screen will tell me 4gigs, NB settings will state I have memory in both slots. Windows will state 8 gigs(4 usable) and CPUz will state 8 gigs and show the memory SPD for both slots.

The only way I can get full use of the ram is if its installed in A1&A2, to which ill get full access, but only in single channel mode. However like I said, NB bios settings detect the ram and speed, as does windows and CPUz with all the correct information, its just doesn't let me use it. Whether its 2x4 or 4x4.
